Topic: RE: RNY and FOBI and LUPUS
The Fobi Pouch is a modification of the standard RNY pouch, pioneered by an African surgeon in California, Dr. Mathias Fobi. It was first used as a revision procedure for failed Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG)
The pouch is situated vertically instead of horizonally to reduce stretching,,and is completely cut away from the greater curvature to reduce the chance of the stomach growing back together. A silastic ring is placed externally to support the stoma and helps reduce stretching.
The lupus issue is with the silastic ring triggering an immune response.. I'm not sure if it does, but that's what helped me to rule that surgery out for myself, because I didn't want to find out!

Has anyone had a fobi done with the rny and have lupus and having no problems with it? My surgeon suggested it for long term results. I recall that lupus and plastic or lapband dont mix with the immune system. I would like some imput on this. Thanks

Talk Soup-
My doctor did the same thing with me! Back then it was called MCTD.
Finally, when I had a number of labs point to Lupus, we started with the Plaquenil and NSAIDS!

Topic: Lupus and chlorophyll (bathroom issue)
Earlier today, I was overjoyed that I could order DEVROM from my local Walgreen's.
Just for clarity's sake, DSer's can have very foul-smelling BM's , and DEVROM is an internal deodorant that takes the stink out. It's not for everyday use, but I would like to use it, for instance, when I go to do my workout at the warm water therapy pool. There's something about exercise that works any type of gas you might have to the surface, and I don't want to clear the women's locker room!
Well, Walgreen's screwed up, and I don't have my DEVROM today. They promised it would be in by tomorrow, but in the meantime, I went to a couple health food stores to check out using chlorophyll, which is WAY cheaper. I've seen on other boards where folks were using it, but when I read the labels, the source of the chlorophyll was alfalfa.
Many of us lupies have been warned against eating alfalfa sprouts because they can trigger flares. I stopped eating them on my salads years ago, and I don't eat sprouts of ANY kind, just to be on the safe side.
Is anyone using chlorophyll safely to solve their bathroom issues? I know this is a YMMV issue, but I'm just curious.
I'd hate to take something to try to do myself some good, and end up in the hospital with a bolus of steroids!

Topic: RE: VERY cool topical pain med...has changed my life!
I know Kim...it does not seem to make sense. But things in the blood stream can affect the protective lining of the stomach and other organs. I understood it when my docs explained it to me but I cannot explain it right. Someone posted on the main site (I think) just the other day and explained it perfectly. What a coquinkadink! LOL As a matter of fact my Rheumy and WL doc are butting heads over, if I have a big flare, if it is Okay to do IV steroids. No more knee or hip injections. But if my kidneys give me a fit there is no more butting heads...doc said they would take the chance. Isn't it amazing how different docs are. I was just thinking there had to be a better way other than being "jacked up" on narcotics all the time. I did a lot over the weekend and am paying for it today so I will just put on some patches and deal with it.
