Topic: RE: my testimony of WLS with Lupus (SLE) & health issues...
I have Connective Tissue Disease/Lupus/RA/Fibro/High Blood Pressure I'm scheduled to do Gastric Bypass in July, and some of my family and friends do not want me to, but I keep telling them that I'm doing it for health reasons, because I want to live a longer life, oh I forgot to tell you Diabetes. I weighed 254 pounds the other day when I went to see my weight lost consultant. I am tired of taking all the medication I have to take, and dealing with this weight, and I want my family to understand that I'm doing this for healh reasons.
With all these diseases I just want someones honest opinion, Is having the surgery to help control some of the diseases would you recommend it.

Topic: RE: Will Plastic Surgeons Do Surgery On Lupus Patients?
Allie, I am so sorry that you are going through all this and my prayers are with you as well. I have diabetes and this is the number one reason I am having the surgery. My lupus doctor said that having the surgery will cut out diabetes and she can focus on just the lupus part of me. I take only plaquenil and cell-cept and seven shots of insulin per day. I have been very worried of the after math of the surgery. I've bee preparing myself for the worse when it comes to the pain and recovery time. Please keep me up to day on how you are doing...the both of you. My prayers are with you.

Topic: RE: Will Plastic Surgeons Do Surgery On Lupus Patients?
I recently had the rny done last Monday I also have many medical conditions including Lupus and I have not crossed the loose skin either although I will tell you I never prepared myself for this. My body isn't wanting to readjust to the new way of eating, the limitations, my body is VERY weak and aching, cold, sore and just a whole funny feeling and I was not used to it on top of the actual pain from the procedure. I was unable to find a doctor that would preform the sleeve on me in Texas at the time well I was told no insurance will pay for it and roughly looking at $26,000. which im not rich and didn't have. Moved to Kentucky and just had the rny last Monday. But im also taking Methatrexate, plaqunil, folic acid, naproxen,PREDNISONE(by far the worst medication ever in life),imuran, vitamin d,nexium, baclofen, lisopril and pain killers. One thing the doctors did was made it seem like once the surgery has been preformed your off majority of your meds within the first week or so, so not true. My biggest concern was the afterlife with the steroids im on 100mg the massive weight gain has caused me to be in this situation im in now. I was never overweight really but my severe flare ups causes the doctors no choice but to control with this medicine. I was trapped inside myself and because I have lovely Lupus no one really wants to work with you. Another main concern was does it make sense to have the surgery but still stay on this medication it basically defeats the purpose. Will i ever have any success. Idk and guess we will see. So with all this being said just prepare yourself for the worst pray for the best on congratulations on your upcoming surgery I will keep you in my prayers. -__- Allie

Howdy,
I have some questions..how are you doing and feeling now after surgery? What is "WLS"? I am not familiar with acronyms on the blog.

Topic: RE: Day three after VSG surgery and I'm doing GREAT
Hi Nena,
I too am grateful, that I have found someone in the same boat. I have develop high blood pressure from first stage kidney disease and I am certain my weight has something to do with it as well. I nearly died this past September from organs shut down. Fortuntely, IV therapy steroids and chemothearpy is what brought me back to functioning.
I will gladly, share and support you with this journey we both on.

Hi Honeybuns, I too have Lupus. I am so glad to see someone else here with Lupus. My surgery is scheduled for July and I am a little nervous. I have not met with the surgeon yet, I have done all of my pre op testing and consults. I have one more with the dietitian and then I begin to se him. I have a million questions for him. My Lupus doctor is the one that suggested the surgery because of my the steroids and diabetes the steroids worsen. She said she sometimes can't figure out if some of my symptos are from flares or the diabetes and/or weight. Please keep me posted on how you are doing. Praying for both of us to come out great from this and into our new journey.

Howdy,
What led me to weight loss surgey? The vicious cycle of steroids and poor eating habits. I just started my new journey towards a better me and hopefully better control of my Lupus. I have yet met with the surgeon but have read and research him.
My objective with this form is to gain insight from others and share my journey with others, especially with fellow Lupus peers.

val - the first week or two I crushed and I've still never been off my lovel prednisone but lucky for me I'[m only on 10 mg a day and the pills are small. the liquid thing was easy for me and it did take me awhile to get used to small portions without eating too much! I had absolutely NO problem loosing my 100 lbs at all. I think I was at goal by 9-10 months. I had a very slight stall and got to as low as 144 but that is just thin for me so I'm back at 150 and have no issue with any food or drink (still have some wine or a martini from time to time as well as some dessert).
The way of life is real tho so you have to remember you will always need to keep an eye on what you eat but for me - being thin is easier to remember and I love my size 6-8 vs 18-20. good luck and you will do fine I'm sure.
