I had no idea...
I had no idea that there was a Lupus forum on here...I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus when I was 20. I am now 35. I have not had a flair since I was 27, think goodness. I did have to worry about my coagulation before and since my surgery...Its going to be nice to have the opportunity to talk to people that have gone through what I have gone through.

Hi and cograts on your weight loss. I was diagnosed with lupus i*****
I did all work up for gastric bypass, and today surgeons office says it's too risky because I may have to take steroids in future. He wants to perform gastric sleeve, I am devaststed, don't want the sleeve procedure, might just walk away. Strange how the obesity will kill me before the lupus, but the lupus is the reason he won't perform procedure
Continued success!!

Deb,
I had the RNY over 4 years ago and have Systemic Lupus. It took me longer to heal from surgery but that's to be expected with the Lupus. The gastric banding was not an option for me as with an auto immune disease the body attacks itself and could have rejected the band. 2 years after surgery my Lupus flared and I have been on daily prednisone for it. I take prilosec, prevacid, or zantac with the prednisone and have not had problems. But my stomach is larger than it was the first 2 years post op.
If I was you I would go to another RNY surgeon for their opinion. I am glad I had the RNY.
Best of luck,
Ginny
