Lupus Five Years after the band...

I was banded 5 years ago, with no history or indications of Lupus.  The symptoms started around Sept 07, and am in the process of being diagnosed. My rheumatologist is leaning towards Lupus.  What I've noticed is that even with the tiniest flareup, my band gets tighter.  I'm in constant pain somewhere in my body.  I do still manage to exercise 5 days/week; in fact I seem to feel better immediately after exercising.  The problem I'm having is that even though I'm exercising, because it's so difficult to eat, I'm not losing weight. I think this is due to not getting enough calories.  Do you think I should talk to my surgeon and see about getting some fluid removed fom the band?

I would definitely check with your doctor. I've had  lupus for many years and you need to be followed especially closely if they suspect any autoimmune disease process, especially with the presence of a LapBand. The surgeon group I'm seeing wouldn't even consider a LapBand as a possibility for anyone even related to anyone with an autoimmune disease...let alone someone with a diagnosis or symptoms. Best wishes.   Shelly
