Hi Missy,
As far as I know you can test neg for ANA and still have lupus. It's not a perfect test. I saw you just had a baby. I've had tons of probs since having mine a year ago. I seem to always have a weird infection--bladder, yeast, sinus...like I have no immune system. I also ache, have mouth sores, bad headaches, lost a lot of hair...I just started iron infusions. Still don't feel better. I feel like my doctor thinks I'm nuts. I told my husand I felt better when I smoked and weighed 260 pounds! Anyway, I hope you get your condition under control. Let us know what's up.

Hello Missy
I was diagnosed with lupus when I was 30 13yrs ago. It is commonally found in people around that age.mostly women but sometimes men too.I did not have a positive result on my ana test for several years. It was discovered because I was experiencing a high level of inflamation in my blood work. I had alot of problems with my lungs, asthma was severe enough to be hospitalized several times a year.
Im not going to candy coat lupus cause lupus sucks the treatment for lupus sucks and so on but I will say that lupus has not ruined my life . I actually felt a little better when I actually had a name to put on things.
I had a old fashoned gastric stapling twenty five years ago, I dont believe it was related, but Im not sure, I know osteo arthritis can be from vitamin deficiency. I have studied in depth about lupus and I have alot of natural remedies that have helped me alot. Losing the weight ( Im having surg in june) will definately help with joint pain.
In all honestyI have been put on every thing for pain from morphine to tylenol.....
I am happy to say most times if I ever need something for joint pain I reach for the tylenol and It usually takes care of it the best.
I have herbal sugestions that can help alot. tumeric is good, and ginger tea helps relieve inflamation.
good luck to you, amanda
Missy,
These are all auto-immune disease. We are particulary susceptible to auto-immune diseases due to nutritional deficiencies. It doesn't mean that you will get them but it is just another good reason why we have to be extremely diligent about getting complete labs done regularly and getting the right supplementation for our body. It is not enough to just take our supplements because we do have absorption issues. It may take switching and trying several different forms of a supplement to make sure that we have the right one that our body can absorb.
I find the vitamin supplementation the hardest thing that I have had to deal with since WLS. Taking the vitamins is not at all hard for me. I just don't like the fact that it takes a while to know if your body is actually absorbing what you are taking. I look for changes in my body to give me an indication. I have had to add several additional supplements based on different issues that have started to appear. I plan on taking a Dexa Scan soon because I can't tell from the labs if my body is absorbing the Calcium supplements that I am taking. I recently upped the dose due to developing general achiness in my back and shoulders. I also recently started taking my Omega 3 oil again for the anti-inflammatory properties.

All I can say is that your post is right on time for me. I know youposted it a long time ago. But, I needed answers and I am just as you were, in the process of being diagnosed. I hope all is well with you know or on it's way. Bless your little baby who must be a joy right now. Anyway it is nice to know I am not alone. Even if you were here before i evenhad my surgery.
Missy-
I'm guessing you have a RNY. I'm a DSer, just 4 weeks out, but the medications I need to take for lupus and fibro are exactly the reason I chose the DS. I can take NSAIDS because I still have a stomach. I also take Nexxium to guard against ulcers and GERD until I lose more weight.
Also, prednisone therapy hiked my weight to the super morbid/malignant obese range. I read that the larger you are with the DS, the faster you lose. I've lost 63 pounds in 4 weeks.
