Surgery with Ulcerative Colitis?

Hi, Has anyone had surgery with Ulcerative Colitis?  I have read some Dr's won't do it.  I am also concerned about being able to take the large amount of drugs that I take with this disease. Thanks for any info you can give, Cindy

Cindy, I have crohn's, which is awfully similar to ulcerative colitis (one step worse, from what I understand).  I was told that I could have the band, but not the bypass. However, I was also told that if I'd had ulcerative colitis and it was confirmed that it wasn't crohn's, I could have either surgery. Good luck to you. Cathy

I suffer from UC and had the VSG done. It makes me llike a RNY since I still have the big D if I eat fatty things and such. Otherwise, not much has changed for me as far as UC is concerned. Everything is pretty much fine.
