Hi Brash1,
Aw you must be so excited, I know I was. And you know I am now 11 days out from surgery and not missing my band at all! I can do things like bend over to tie my shoes without the port digging in and causing pain, sleep on my Left side - no way could I do that before, and being able to go okay I am having a meal and not have to start drinking to make things ok to receive anything.... You will love the new freedom that is for sure. All the little things we have been putting up with for years that become part of your life...
And the good news the weight has been coming off too - Week 1 I lost 4.6kg (10lbs)! holy guccamole! I am wanting to lose 30 kilos (68lbs) this time round so that I thought was a huge loss week one, although I only had to do 1 week preop so had only lost 2kg before surgery.
Feeling good, out and about, back to work on Tuesday mornings only for that week, have been working from home last week. Looking forward to moving to real food, but no hunger, just have to remember to eat. I found it easier being banded we already know the eat and drink rules.
Keep me updated on your progress as you move towards your date!

I am wishing every one of you the very best. I hope those of you who need revision surgery will get it and all will go well. And those of you who simply want your bands removed, good luck to you, too.
Thank you for sharing your experiences! You help others who are going through similar things.

I am in the process of having my band converted to bypass. Last night was torture. It was so gassy around my port and I couldn't lay on my left side to go to sleep. I felt terrible and couldn't go to sleep. My left side is still uncomfortable. The port is driving me crazy, the vomiting is torture, the reflux, the aspirating is gross, and the weight loss was non existent. I pray the insurance company approves a revision for me.
Good look with your recovery please keep us updated.
The band is the biggest mistake I ever made! I has ruined my stomach so bad that I can barely eat anymore and I have constant pain even tho the band was removed 2 yrs ago. I wouldn't wish a band on satan himself it is a horrid device!
Congrats oh mighty Pumpkin on the new little gourd! Nothin' like grandkids to make life awesome. Remember the gramma creed "spoil, return to parent". Enjoy the little one!
Hello
I have had mine for 7+ years. Doing well so far. I have lost a little over 190lbs and have maintained. I have had no issues. I have been truly blessed.
I am assuming you meant 2016...right?
Good luck on your journey.
Hi! I just started the process for a revision. I met with my surgeon yesterday and the ball is rolling. I will get all necessary appointments done by October 13. Hopefully my surgery date is shortly after that. I am so ready. I was banded is 2007 has some success but have struggled the past 4.5 years. Best of luck.
I had my lap band 8-2002. I have lost 108lbs and kept it off. I did have to have 2 revision surgeries, one for the port coming unattached and one for the tubing coming unattached. But all in all I am still a fan of my band!
Good luck to you with continued success!
Unfortunately, my band just damaged me completely and I had it removed a decade ago. The band caused extreme damage to my Vagus nerves and I still have referred left shoulder pain to this day.
IF you start to experience any type of left shoulder pain, please consult your doctor immediately. The more the Vagus nerve is irritated, the worse and more permanent it can become. It's not something you want to deal with. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens enough to be a cause for concern. The trick is to get rid of the irritant before the damage becomes too severe. I'm not saying this to discourage you... I just don't want anyone else to experience it.
This board isn't overly active, but if you search for band groups, you may find some here on OH.
I wish you the best!

Unfortunately this forum isn't very active as many folks have had their bands removed and revised to another WLS. There are a few that still have the band, but they don't post much.
Many doctors and insurances are no longer covering or performing band surgeries due to the long term complications that have arouse from the band. Please make sure if you get any stuck feelings, reflux, or left shoulder pain you go see your surgeon. After having my band for 13 years I had it removed and revised to the bypass. I no longer have reflux, but I still get left shoulder pain due to damage done from the band.
Best of luck to you.
