This is just what I've been looking for!  I just had my band removed and am awaiting revision surgery.  My doc says that RNY is my best option and I've been scared.  I am also very hard on myself about the band failure, I was told that tons of people are having the same band failure.  It is nice to hear your stories because I still have a hard time not blaming myself.

I couldn't take my daily medication without lots of tricks, grind them, break them, one at a time, with yogurt, etc.  And even then the smallest pill would get stuck and then came the coughing, hiccuping, slimming and eventually elimination.  YUK!

As I fought to find my "sweet spot" I back slide into bad food choices and eating between meals ( I was hungry way more).  End of that chapter is that my weight has come back.

Cross your fingers for me on my next chapter!  I will keep all of you in my thoughts

I went through the pills getting stuck too!  My thyroid pill is tiny and I gagged on it every day!  Such a relief.

Good luck to you!

Things are going good in comparison to your story. I was banded in 2009 and last year began vomitting blood, tried band adjustments and nothing resolves my problems. Insurance denied me 3 times for removal and conversion to rny but they finally came through. I was converted to bypass may 3 and am losing my regain slowly but I still feel 1000 xs better than I was feeling that last year of banding . I hope that you continue to recover and fee better !!

Show sweet of you to check on me. Thank you!  I'm doing much better and all the lab tests show that the infection is decreasing.  One reading (platelets) is still high. I'm at 670 and it should be 150 range. Although my dr said it would take some time for those numbers to come down.

Im feeling pretty well. The pain has gone away. The only thing is I get tired easily. I was warned to be prepare for that. My body is using all its resources to heal that hole from the eroded lap band. I've see photos of it and can't imagine why I didn't have problems arise sooner!  Just glad to be on the mend with a great team of physicians to take of me.

The he surgeon that was on call that day had started his hospital rounds at the hospital rounds at 6am, then non-stop the rest of the day. My surgery was schoolmate 6pm, and he got, stuck in traffic, so he got started at 8pm and finished sometime after 12:30a. Very long day!!  I've told him thank you in every way I can.

How are things going for you?

Hi Ann,

Fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

The whole "sweet spot" and "green zone" is a myth for most people, as you've found, I'm sure. The problem is that our bodies change... inflammation, time of the month, etc. all affect the tightness of the band. You can be at a "perfect" level one day and the next notsomuch. You could spend tons of time and money adjusting the band and still not get it right. In theory, the band is a decent idea. In reality, it's a disaster.

Do not blame yourself!

I right there with you!  We are not failures.  The band failed us.  We all need to grieve and then move forward.  I know it is easier said than done, but I'm working on it and We all have so much support here and around us.

Your not alone!  We go on this journey because we care about our health.  We all thought it through and researched, chose the band because it was lest invasive/removable etc.

We just gave medicine 10 more years to perfect the RNY for us :)  At least we got our diet down....
