I don't know if you have been keeping up with the Revision Forum, but if you haven't I would start there.  A majority of the people who have revised from lap band to RNY or the sleeve have done so because of symptoms like yours.  I had my lap band in 2009 and lost some weight but not as much as I wanted.  Because my port always flipped backwards, I was not able to get fills very often because it was so traumatic to get them.  Fast forward to 2014 and I started throwing up everything I tried to eat, had terrible acid back up at night, everything got stuck etc.  I started thinking about having my band removed so I started researching and discovered these symptoms start presenting themselves to most band patients after a few years.  I found a good revision surgeon and made an appointment with him.  An EGD showed scar tissue around my band and it needed to come out.  One month later he removed my band and converted to RNY.  He would only do RNY because of my terrible GERD.  It was the best decision I ever made.  To be able to eat without everything getting stuck, throwing up, no more pain etc. was awesome.  I have lost the weight I wanted to lose, am completely off blood pressure meds and feel so much better.  Don't wait to have your situation looked at by a doctor.  If your band has eroded or some other issue, you don't want to mess around with it.  You need to see a doctor ASAP.  Good luck!

definitely get another opinion a band gone wrong can threaten your life.  When i described my symptoms to my new surgeon his response was that band needs to come out now!  don't  wait.  I revised to RNY.  I did self pay to avoid waiting for the insurance process in Canada.

Thanks for the positive message.  I too, was banded over 7 years ago and have had no problems, no regrets.  I appreciate hearing from another "bandit", reading all of the negative stuff on here is scary!

yes you do! I too have the LapBand for 10 years. I started throwing up and having bad, bad reflux in March 2016. Prior to these years I had no problems. I actually keep my weight off and stayed around 125 pounds. I noticed it started to creep up and wondered what the heck. I also had to throw up every night around the same time due to the acid. I purchased a hospital type bed so that I could slip sitting up. This didn't help. So I went in to a clinic and they said they don't do anything with Lap Band any more due to complications. They recommended me going 3 hours from my home to Rochester MN to Mayo Clinic. There I had several people consulting with me. I had every test under the sun and they said the band failed me. It was leaning up which caused my esophagus to become my stomach. I had ulcer all over my esophagus. The took out all fluid and gave me medicine to heal the sores. They told me not to worry because I am a very good candidate for the revision surgery due to my complications. That was almost a year ago and I now am 70 pounds heavier and have to wear my cpap machine again. The insurance said I'm not at a 35 bmi with enough complications!!!

You might end up like me in the long run.

Go see another doctor!!!

What do you mean starting over?

P.S.  Please, for your own best chances for success, understand that diet pills mean temporary weight loss.  I know of no one who every relied on pills who kept the weight off after stopping the pills.  To live on pills for long periods is dangerous and unhealthy.  It is so important that you understand the purpose of the band and how to use it well.

You won an opportunity for long-term success.  Learn to use it well.  Learn what its purpose is.

Holy cow.  A bariatric website I used until recently did occasional giveaways in cahoots, it seems, with surgeons in Mexico.  It's bad enough that so many people have surgery in the U.S. and have no idea of what's involved and what it means, but to send them outside is doubly criminal.

Yvonne, diet pills should be unnecessary because the defeat the purpose of the lapband or any other weight-loss surgery.  Losing weight after surgery requires your own responsibility.  People have surgery and never lose weight because they eat the wrong things in huge amounts (cake, chips, etc.), just as they always had.  Surgery and drugs aren't intended to be magical "cures."  Surgery is an aid to be used while making wise food choices.

The band is intended to diminish appetite.  The only way to really know that appetite has been diminished is to pay attention for the moment when we think, "I can eat a few more bites....but I don't need them because I feel satisfied right now!"

If you insist on taking pills, it is likely that you will never achieve good weight loss or maintain weight loss.  f you lose weight by depending on pills, you will also deprive yourself the satisfaction of owning an accomplishment.

It's important to be aware that one fill may not be enough. It is common to need a few or even more to get to a good place. A "good place" is having the band adjusted so that it is a partner to losing weight.

My best suggestion is that you start attending surgery support groups given by the practices in your area.  You'll have a chance to ask questions and share info with others.  Not all groups are run very well, so you may have to try a few to find one that is really helpful.  Call the surgery offices to ask about group schedules.  Most welcome people who had surgery elsewhere.

It's about your well-being and health, not insurance.  Being unable to eat suggests that removal of saline would be the first thing to try, but you've never had an adjustment.  You need to know what's going on.  The implication is that you're beyond a year overdue for an esophagram.  Stop taking polls and stop courting serious damage:  Make the phone call.

You very well could have developed scar tissue around your band and it is causing the band to tighten on its own.  Before I had my revision I had an unfill for two years yet I still had restriction to the point of reflux/heartburn/pbing daily. When I went in for my revision my surgeon found my band encased in scar tissue and that was what caused the restriction.  It also damaged a small part of my stomach that had to be removed.

My advice is not to wait for better insurance as things can get worse.
