Topic: RE: How quick do you feel a fill?

When you get a fill you don't normally feel anything. They should have you drink water to ensure it goes right down and that you are not too tight. Then you should be on liquids for a day since a fill can make you a little more swollen than usual.

5.5 years post lap band. Same symptoms. Once the symptoms started I never have been able to lose weight again, though I can maintain with vigilance. A key seems to be to not eat solids for 3 days after a band top up and to do the top ups with very small additions. Good luck.

Topic: I woke up during surgery

Yep I sure did. I went to Mexico. My knockout med was a "happy pill". During surgery I guess it wore off I think it was a valum. I was fully wake & awear but I couldn't move or anything to let them know im awake. I could feel them what felt like moving my liver over or whatever they were doing. It was AWFUL pain! I think I passed out from the pain. I remember just praying & begging God to just make them stop.

Good luck to you! I got my band in 2004 also & have only seen a Dr 1 time & got a sample fill for $1500. I just this month saw a Dr who is going to start me on getting my fills. I havent lost any weight & gained 10 lbs since surgery I guess that isnt horrible but it is like I just got the band recently & getting started. My life was very unsettled with husbands job moving everywhere & I won the band so I went & got it atleast I have the band & now I can start using it. I have no ins & no way to pay for a band so im real lucky I got it for free.

Topic: RE: lap band removal 1 week ago

I had my band removed the same day as my RNY. I'm 15 weeks out and I still have pain at the former port site. The doc said that he had to cut the port out of the muscle because the prongs wouldn't let go.

Topic: Dilated Esophagus

I am 6+ years post lap band surgery. I have been very successful with it with no problems. My starting weight was 354 and I went down to 198 and maintained that until last year with my pregnancy. Before my pregnancy, I never had one bit of trouble with my band at all! I committed to eating right and exercising religiously and it worked! However, during my pregnancy and post pregnancy, numbers seemed to get confusing with my fills (because I always ask what they're doing even though they don't like to say).

I had been having a lot of problems keeping anything down since October and found out in February that my esophagus is dilated and achalasia. All of my fluid came out and in the past three weeks I have gained 15lbs. Because of not being able to keep anything (even liquids) down for a few months, I was malnourished, dehydrated, just a mess. So a little gain I expected for my body to catch up and regain health. But I guess my biggest concern is now what?

I go back to the doctor Friday for another upper GI. At my last appointment I was told there were no restrictions I had to follow, just eat lap band appropriate. However, over the last few days, I have been reading blogs and doing research and have found that a lot of patients with this problem are put on a strict liquid diet for the month. Has anyone gone through this and been able to return to band restriction successfully? I'd appreciate any input.
