Topic: RE: My Lap-Band slipped

My Band slipped because of food poisoning and serious vomiting. Right after that I experienced terrible reflux , even on water :( and I also had Left shoulder pain which are all complications of a band. I demanded that my Dr. remove it and I felt 100%better . And unfortunately your Doctor is correct removal of bands are pretty much inevitable. Removing Fluid helps SOMETIMES .. good luck with your decision.

When Abdominal Surgery is done Adhesions(Scar tissue) forms and for whatever reason it plays Havoc with the band. Most will be fine for years and then they develop complications like difficulty swallowing, eating Healthy foods, vomiting, it's best to have an Endoscopy done to rule out internal problems.

I'm coming up on 9 yrs, with a slip at 5yrs which corrected with temp infill. My doctor called me a model patient & we aren't sure why the slip happened.

After a slip it is more likely to happen again & my restriction is not the same - I personally would opt for sleeve surgery. My band experience has been overall good and in 2008 it was an ok choice but today there is more knowledge regarding complications.

I had a slip 4 yrs in which was corrected by an infill. I've now had my band for 8 yrs & experience more reflux from time to time but no slips.

Im weary I'll have a slip & need to pay for removal. In hindsight if my insurance would have covered a revision, I would have chosen to go that route. Since I'm more apt to slip again & my restriction level just isn't what it was & ive gained 35lbs back, I'd revise if possible.

I've found stress whether it be good or bad causes my band to tighten up - also if travel is involved. Then because I know my band tightens it is in my mind. Also I get excited then eat faster, I'm 8 yrs out.

Hi Karen, I was banded in 2006 also. I just had the band removed 5 days ago. Your symptoms might be due to a slip. I had no fluid in the band and had a slip. I had trouble eating and coughing. Suggest you see your MD to be evaluated.

Topic: tight band

I have had my band for over 10 years. Every time I visit my family, I either am not hungry, eat smaller amounts than normal or have trouble digesting food. It is clear that my band tightens. I have heard that stress can make the band tighter, but I love being with my family and am definitely not stressed when I am with them. Does anyone have any idea as to what else could be going on has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks!

Karen

Do you think the Dr wants to make a dollar of you? That's a lot for a single fill. Go to anot her doctor for another opinion
