Topic: RE: Can't seem to drink the proper amount of fluid

Hello!

In the beginning I had to set an alert on my phone every 15 mins to remind me to take a drink. This way you drink consistently through the day. I would say it took me a full year to get it to be automatically in my brain to drink. I can drink more now at one time, I am nearly 11 years out and know what rate/speed to drink at to keep me comfortable.

I will say in the mornings I drink warm liquids or if it is cold out, my band has never done well when cold. Or when I am stressed, feels like it just clamps down! Just be sure to really pay attention to the fickleness your band has. All of us are different and there will be stuff you cannot have. For me, pork, full on sandwich or cheeseburger, or gummy breads/tortillas. All stuff I should not eat anyway so not that big of a deal for me. Oh also over cooked chicken or seafood.

But there are also items that make me full, just on the verge of being uncomfortable but make me defiantly not hungry. For me those are carrots, hard boiled eggs, and apples with the skin. I use those to stop mindless eating, if I want dessert I eat the apple, it is sweet and will keep me from eating anything else the whole night. I also tell myself to get a hot tea, hot drinks take longer to drink and usually by the time I am done I forgot I wanted to eat (I was not really hungry anyway just wanted food).

So be sure to find some tricks to help you get through it. Good luck.

Absolutely, However, I am worried about my band. I've been experience a great deal of pain around the port area. I need to certainly move forward and have it checked out and get a CLEAR to go ahead and have it filled. Currently, there is NO restriction. I know that is a BIG part of my issue. Thank you for the words of encouragement, your absolutely right.

Thank you,

Marilyn

Topic: RE: 11 years out and Getting ready to say goodbye

I am having my slipped lapband removed and replaced by the sleeve. I had my lapband surgery in 2008. I lost a lot of weight over the years and if this were my first time, my weight would not qualify for medicare and my supplement insurance. I know my insurance will pay for the removal of the band, but will it pay for the sleeve if I am not as obese as required?
If someone knows, please respond. Thanks, Bobbie

Topic: RE: My Lap-Band slipped

I found out yesterday that my lap-band has caused part of my stomach to balloon above the lap-band so will need to be removed. I will have it replaced with the sleeve. My lap-band surgery was in 2008 and I lost a lot of weight since then. I know my insurance will pay for the removal of the band but will it pay for a sleeve replacement? I don't have the same insurance that I had in 2008. Today I have medicare and medi-gap supplement insurance.

Thanks, Bobbie

Topic: RE: Did anyone cheat on their pre-op liquid diet?

I am having surgery on the 13th and I have cheated with like a tiny pice of chicken of some potatoe chips. But I have drinker my 3 shakes a day 64 ounces of water. Is that bad for my surgery.

Thank you, JuniperBerry, that is great information. I had a fill a few weeks ago and I don't feel hungry as soon after eating, thank goodness. Now I am working on eating better and I have lost 10 pounds since the fill! It's just what I needed to get motivated again.

I had the same kind of story, I had my band in 2009, lost about 50 lbs. Had a breast reduction in 2016 but was gaining weight anyway. I was up to 200 again. They took the fluid out of the band for the breast reduction surgery. When putting the fluid back in I had nothing but difficulties. I had the band out in April 2017 and am scheduled for the Gastric Bypass RNY this week on Wednesday. I'm so happy I am having this done. My surgeon doesn't do the conversion right after the band removal, he feels its better to wait 3-4 months before doing another surgery. Unfortunately that caused my gaining 40 lbs more and I'm at my highest weight ever. I'm looking forward to not being hungry and losing this weight once and for all. I am also looking forward to getting off of blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication.

I am a registered nurse and have done a lot of research on this and it appears everyone is delighted with their decision when made.

Good luck, I agree have a conversation with your doctor. I was almost 10 years out from the band when I had mine out. They don't even do bands anymore due to the problems with them.
