Topic: RE: Lap band removal

Hiya, so the band is out and I feel good!

In a couple more weeks I can start exercising

im 38 no children (yet) and no partner. I'd love to have a child but it doesn't yet seem to be happening

I struggle with being 21 pounds overweight and I don't like it! I liked the idea of the band because at least then I could adjust the restriction and eat a normal smaller meal.

Any suggestions with what to try next? Diet has always failed me. Even a week after band removal surgery I was on liquids only and didn't lose any weight. Can you eat a normal sized kids meal on the RNY?

Topic: RE: Esophageal Dilation

I concur that you need to get that puppy out asap. I also had symptoms like you (Gerd etc). When my doc removed my band he told me that it had "stretched" my esophagus and as a result my pouch was double the size of the usual RNY pouch. Research has apparently shown pouch size has little impact on success. so he said I'd do well with it. He was right.

Re: damage. Every day you leave the band in you are risking further damage. My doc assured me that until they get in there they don't really know what they are dealing with. eg...I have an extra scar because they made an incision to remove the port only to find it wasn't there. It had moved 6 inches down.

Get the band out asap!

Best of luck to you. I hope that the removal of your band goes well and you have no problem getting the revision.

Hope you'll check in and let us know how you're doing.

It took me a long time to realize it wasn't me its the band , in my Drs office I would meet ladies having trouble too , but the Dr , kind of blew it off, I have since moved away from Ca, but I wonder if he's still doing these bands , because it is very rare to meet ANYONE , having true success , I understand most Dr are not using the band anymore, I am surprised there hasn't been some type of class action lawsuit , too many people , with too many complications !

I had my EGD done on Fri , the Dr. says there is a lot of esophageal irritation and he removed a few polyps to be biopsy, he feels the insurance will approve my removal and revision . I am so happy , I am just hoping and praying it all works out.

I was the same way. They could never get my restriction right. I vomitted constantly! Less than a year after getting it I was in the OR having it removed under emergent cir****tances, because it completely obstructed me. I couldn?t even swallow my own spit. This was aprox 11 years ago. I am not a fan of the band. I find it to be a very poor surgery. Be careful.
