Have you had a recent endoscopy to see why the GERD is bad? I totally get the fear and shame of the weight gain. It's a struggle every single day.

Topic: Lapband appt after 5 years

Hi everyone! I had my lapland done in Aug 2007 and I lost a lot of weight... I got all the way down to my goal weight!!! I got married 5 years ago and was having some acid reflux issues, so I had some fluid removed and I never went back in. Here I am 5 years later and back to my original weight... marriage and love is to blame... haha!

I have an appt with a new doctor today to try to get my lapland managed again. The doctor who originally did my surgery is no long in practice.

Has anyone else gone through a similar situation where they didn't manage their lapland, then gained weight back and then lost it again once they started managing it?

Thanks for all your help!

banded in 205 - lost 100lbs - removed in 2010 due to prolapse. Revised to VSG during removal (big mistake as my sleeve is huge due to the stomach not having time to heal from the band). Gained back my 100 lbs plus. Started Keto in Dec 2017...down 35lbs and finally starting to have a normal relationship with food.

Hopefully you see your doctor soon. I was told it can be aggravated or caused when we over stuff our band, this puts pressure on the esophagus and eventually the esophagus looses its muscle strength to push food down.

I get reflex mostly due to my haital hernia, but that is also my doing, I over ate too much causing a little hernia.

The band can cause real health issues, some are our own doing and some are just due to how the device works with your body or shall I say how your body reacts to it.

Either way you should get it fixed ASAP to avoid long term health issues. Good luck1

Mine did removal and Sleeve in the same surgery and I would never recommend it. Let everything heal then go back for a revision.

I understand and hence I feel my secret relationship with the band was love hate.. I really liked being smaller and not feeling hungry.. not having the GERD (was under control), my health was improved PCOS was better than it had ever been but of course there were some downsides like the vomiting although not frequent, the infills were the worst as it meant the liquid diet before and after, needle in you and if they put too much in I'd get the chest tightness.. also not being able to take tablets

I have really bad GERD now and I am taking tablets not helping.. it's in my chest and back. I don't want to be fat again.. I'm already regaining..

sounds like the sleeve is a good option for you. Hope you get the procedure soon x

I am not having any issues with heartburn or GERD now. I am off all meds for it. However, I would rather take a pill for GERD than deal with the shame and depression of being fat again.
I have no ill effects from the band removal and healed pretty quickly. I thought I would be sleeved by now (Dr doesn't want to do RNY due to my severe anemia.... he thinks the mal-absorption woudl be worse than any GERD I would get from the sleeve)

Hi Mary, if you're hoping for the sleeve is your GERD under control now? Do you have any ill effects from the removal of the band? My port side is fine it's just the heartburn plus there's certain textures of food I still can't tolerate.

sorry to hear you're having to battle with your insurance company. Hopefully you get the approvals you need soon.

After a port replacement a couple of years into LB (had LB in 2007) mine also slipped down and cut off my small intestines after 11 years. Had to have an emergency removal. Now fighting to get a new "tool" in place as I was actually very successful with the band even though it gave me crazy bad GERD. Damn insurance grrrrr

My doctor wants to give me a sleeve, but my insurance keeps saying my BMI isn't high enough after my band was removed (duh of course it isn't, I got to goal weight with the band and maintained for 11 years!)
Anyway, I am battling insurance and battling weight gain.... 20 pounds in 2 months all ready. It sucks. I would not do the band again though.... I think most doctors aren't even banding people anymore.
