I'm sorry to hear you and your band didn't work out.  I have several friends that have had issues as well, a few revisions and removals.  I wasn't at all impressed with my surgeons program, there just wasn't one, but his technique was good and I had my band plicated, even way back then.  So far, every scan has shown it happy and healthy, it hasn't moved since placement.  I did have a very slight dilatation of the esophagus at one point, but it was self induced, KNOWING darn well I was too tight and trying to  wait just one more day for that unfill.  I had 1/2 CC removed and re-scanned with good results. I do keep my eye on the ol' girl and will continue to, but I thank you much for the reminder.

I'm glad to see that all is well Kate!  I remember you as well.  I'm so sorry to see that some of our other old-timers aren't doing well or have had complications.     I had a ton of trouble with my band in the early years, not because of the band, but because of my fight with it and myself.  Took a good 5 or so years to really get a hold on all the issues that drove me to obesity to begin with....and we're still at the tip of the iceberg.  Darn good thing I guess, I expect the day we figure it alllll out, would be our last ;)

This won't ease your mind but I need to let you know that rapid decrease in restriction(especially after so long) can also be a sign of erosion. The band erodes into the stomach which if left undetected can cause sepsis or poisoning of your stomach and insides and can be deadly. It often cannot be seen from the outside and they sometimes have to do surgery to see if that is what the cause is.

Now if you are very lucky it is just a leak somewhere in the tubing or port so don't let this just go on by without keeping a close eye on it, your life could depend on your vigilance. I wish you the best and hope it is nothing more than a leak!

I'm the board naysayer here so I have to agree with the idea that the band is a bad choice for anyone. I still have so much damage from mine that I still can hardly eat from all the acid that comes up my throat from my stomach. It literally burns my throat and mouth so much comes up into my mouth. I can't even wear my dentures for very long because the acidy saliva gets between the gums and my denture and just sits there burning my gums. I might mention I had the band removed over a year ago!

I do know a few who have had success with the BOB so it is possible, the problem is there are no long term statistics to show what kind of damage it may do to your stomach down the road. Those of us who had bands years ago were actually guinea pigs and didn't know it and we paid for it, so I am just very leery of anything to do with the band.

I really am glad yours has worked out well for you mine didn't but hey if it works for you that's all that matters! Sounds like you have a little piece of heaven there in Kentucky, I'm jealous home grown everything!! Sounds delicious and I'm sure that has helped alot, I know I rarely go to the store anymore, mostly because I can't but it helps keep you on track when you don't even have to deal with those temptations. Homegrown just tastes entirely different, I remember how foods tasted as a kid and how they taste now an it's just plain yuck! Enjoy your lovely new life but do be aware that the band can cause horrible damage to so anytime you are in doubt, check it out!!  Best of luck to you!

Topic: Banded 2007

Hi

I was banded in 2007, I went from 268/148 and recently I noticed  I was able to eat more and was gaining weight. I went to see my doctor and I had hardly any saline in, he added 4cc and is going to have me come back in 2 weeks to see what is in there. I am worried I have a leak, I have never had this happen. With the 4cc that he added, I do feel a little different, and I am not as hungry, but I do not feel as restricted as I was. It seems like I went from tight to nothing in a matter of a week. Any words to ease my worries ?

Thanks for responding. Yeah, the feedback hasn't been to great to say the least..lol. I had the RNY 9 years ago and lost 90 pounds. I gained weight again and stretched my pouch out. It's my fault of course along with my emotions. I having the lap band to tighten it back up to give me the full feeling again. How long did it take you to start losing? I was told it would be slower this time around...

Look at the profile of Heathercross. She is a very successful BOB. I personally love my band and have done for almost 9 years but there are many on here who disagree with me!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I remember you,! Your life sounds good! And Zinam glad your band is still fine.

I am happily banded at almost nine years and know many people who are equally happy! Unfortunately you may get answers from others you remember telling a different tale - a number have had serious problems. Quite a lot of vets pop in from time to time but very few still post regularly on here.

Lap Band on 03/30/15
Topic: I'm having my Revision from RNY to BOB on 03/30/15...I have some questions!!!!

I posted this on the Revision Forum and the feedback was don't do it! I was told that the Lap band will cause me to have alot of permanent health issues. I have to admit that I am getting a little nervous now but I'm scared of a DS. Plus there are no Doctors in Charlotte that do that procedure. Has anyone on this forum ever had this revision done???? Thanks in advance for any feedback....
