I haven't got anything helpful to say as I have no exoerience of any of this. Just sending my best wishes.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Topic: Pain and more issues since told my tube was ruptured

So... Several months of sharp ab and pelvic pain led to tests and imaging making me feel crazy for chasing phantom pain! One issue discovered was a "Ruptured catheter" on my Lap-Band; I went to my original surgeon to check on it, though still very stressed over the pain affecting my home and work life. My Dr said "its your tubing" without a doubt in her mind, still I provided her with the CT scan and x-ray because the next step was exploratory surgery.

So the low down basically is this: my connection has worn loose and then over time, it has wiggled its way down into my pelvis and is poking my intestines??!! over 2 weeks I have gone from ache to sharp pains with any exertion, put on light duty at work (causing big issues) and can't get comfortable or sleep. My Dr called it a known design flaw with the tubing -and gravity causes the plug end to fall and that is why I'm in pain. Now, this year, the manufacturer has redesigned the connection and she plans to go back in , install the new design and 'get me back on track to loosing weight".

I'm really wondering about warranty now. I'm thinking: why should I or my insurance have to pay for this if it is so common?

Do I want the Lap Band reinstalled or do I want to try something else?

What if a new band and starting over causes some of those other side affects I've read about?

My original post was concern over warranty but now pain has come to the fore front and I don't have time to wait list with a new doctor and I'm stressed about the insurance approval, it took 4 months last time..HELP!

I am going through the exact same thing now - out of the blue I started gaining weight and had no restriction - went to get a fill and ask him to check what was in there and he said hardly any which was strange - so he got me to 4cc and still no restriction - another thing  I am noticing is I am sore really high up at the top of the breast bone - I am also scared if I have a leak my ins wont pay for it. Have you found out if your insurance is going to pay ?

I understand about that ! My drs wife was his first assistant and did my first 3 fills, she would put the needle in, I'd feel her ontop of my port , clearly in the right spot and she'd go pounce pounce pounce, I finally asked her " what the heck are you doing " I'm a surgical tech and know better than that! She said I'm just bouncing on it to make sure I'm in the right spot. SO !!! The next time I went in, I told the dr " I don't want to offend you but she will not be touching me again" he said no problem. The thing is ..... My stomach used to be bruised when she did it and hasn't ever been that way when he did it!

I am 5 years, 10 months out -- never had a fluroscopy for a fill.

My doc and I discuss how I am feeling --- and we decide on an amount -- and he hits the bullseye, first time, every time.

No one touches my band except for my surgeon (I have heard a few horror stories about the NP in his office) --- so I wait until I can get an appointment with him.

Thank you all for your replies. I had .5 cc removed and was able to do fluids a little better and the puking up brown stopped. Today I feel better, almost like the stochastic swelling has reduced and I was able to eat a small tiny breakfast .

Kim, one thing you said about your "pouch" made me wonder whether your doctor has updated you! If he has, sorry to be repeating it, but understanding changed around 2008 and it might just be you haven't been told about the results of studies carried out since then.

i was taught in 2006 that we ate until the area above the band was full but not stretched, food needed to remain above the band to stimulate the vagus nerve so that our brains believed we were " full". So we didn't drink with meals as food shouid not be washed through as the stimulation process could take up to 20  minutes. So we needed to learn our own " soft stop", the point at which the pouch was full but not over-full.

a great deal of research was carried out into this and from around 2008, bariatric conferences ( the ones for the surgeons and other professionals not patients) were being told the new understanding, largely arising from Australian research. It took a couple of years for this to trickle down to become the new orthodoxy and every now and then I still hear an occasional newly banded person who has still been told the old version!

it is now taught that food, if well-chewed, passes through the band in under a minute. Not only does so but must. If food remains above the band, this can cause serious oesophageal problems and means the band is too tight. Drinking with food is therefore fine as long as food is allowed that minute to pass. The diminution of hunger comes because the narrowing of the band means that the oesophageal walls need to make more movements to move the food along. The brain is aware of the number of movements and these are what signals satiety. This is not putting undue pressure on the oesophagus because it is not straining or under pressure as long as the band is not too tight,

So we shouid not feel in any way full; simply that after eating an appropriate amount, we should not feel hunger.

The old teaching may be one of the factors which lead to many of the problems faced by some banded people.
