Something must be done! Easy for me to say when I don't have to work with the U.S. system! But you are at risk of doing yourself harm if your band is this tight. Constant building up of food/liquid can damage the base of the oesophagus. And you are going to get malnourished.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Thanks for your help, my HMO will not allow me to have it removed or a revision to another type of gastric surgery without a life threatening event, I agree, if for some reason I were to lose Banderella, I would go with a sleeve.
The nausea is continuous when it kicks in, it comes in waves, the belly pain is upper belly and I cannot even milk down when this happens let alone food, sometimes I even throw tea back with a mountain of mucous.....sorry, not trying to be gross. I have an HMO and am limited to what can be done for me. Thanks for your help.
Thank you! I cannot seem to get the docs here to take me seriously, I have an HMO and am limited to what they will cover.
Whatever the cause, you need to find it out! When you say belly pain, where do you mean? Above the band, around it, below it?
And is the vomit after eating? Specific foods?

My personal opinion for myself is I would go with the sleeve because I don't need malabsorbtion. So for me the sleeve would be the best option and I was already to have it except my health went down hill and my insurance doesn't cover it.
I was trying to hang onto my band until I could have it done all at one time, band removal and sleeve. Then last year the band pain got so bad I just couldn't live with it anymore and had to have my band removed but no sleeve. Now because of the damage done by my band to my stomach I don't qualify for surgery anymore, I am almost at goal.
My stomach no longer empties correctly and I have a very difficult time eating, I can only eat tiny amounts of food at a time. I have to eat several times a day and only little bits at a time. I can only eat somewhat soft foods and often have to puree things to be able to get them down. Then the fun part comes the pain and cramping from gas and the food backing up, constipation even tho I take stool softeners. If I'm lucky with in a day or so it will pass on thru, but more likely I'll have to take a laxative and wait for that to work on thru in a few days and then I get a couple of days without pain and gas. However within another day or two it starts the cycle allover again and thanks to the band I will have to live with this for the rest of my life.
So anyway if I could I would go with the sleeve since it leaves a normal stomach just smaller and the basic surgery has been around for decades and done for stomach cancer and ulcers so it is a fairly common surgery. It also has a very low complication rate and it actually works like they told us the band would work. The chances of keeping the weight off without another surgery is pretty slim. I wish you the best and hope you will be able to make the choice.
I had the Lap Band surgery in 2012 and I vomit as well (quite a bit). My surgeon wanted to remove some of the saline but I would not permit it since I found I was extremely hungry and overeating when the band was looser. You say that your surgeon has removed all the saline but that seems to mean that they band is no longer actively doing anything for you. I have not had the other types of surgery but I would recommend the sleeve as from what I viewed on the video about the surgeries it is less invasive than the gastric bypass. I personally have been doing better by eating less at my meals but eating more often.

Could someone please offer me some advice? I had a Lap band placed in 2007, I have successfully lost 100 lbs. and have kept it off...my problem is, 2 years ago I was walking outside and took a really bad fall, since then, I have whole weeks of nausea/vomiting, nothing will stay down and I have terrible belly pain. Went to band doc, he removed all saline from band, and said it was in working order, I also have the sensation of choking right before the nausea starts, has anyone else had this problem and could you tell me what you did to aleviate this? I am truly a happy lap bander, the thought of losing my band makes me cringe.

I would suggest seeing a Gastro doc and have him do some testing on your esophagus. Sounds like you may have caused some damage there when you fell. Also I have read many times where a doc checks the band for slipping and says it looks fine only to discover later when they have gone in to remove the band that it had indeed slipped. Sounds like you need an endoscopy to check for damage. It may also have caused damage to the vagus nerve. It is very hard to tell I haven't read of anyone else having this particular problem before but I definately wouldn't ignore it! I also would go with a sleeve if you do end up losing the band. Good luck!

I think it depends on whether you actually need another weight loss surgery, or whether you just need to 'lose several pounds' -- I don't know what 'several' means.
If I had enough weight to lose that I thought that WLS was warranted again, I would not replace my band. I, personally, would go with the VSG because I don't want malabsorption.
I have had good luck with my band --- but I know the odds are not favoring it as a lifetime tool ---- so, there is no chance that I would get another band if/when this one needs to come out.
