My best guess is hiatal hernia. Look it up and see if the full description sounds right, but acid and burping are two tell-tale symptoms. I had one associate with my band, which was repaired during my band removal and revision to RNY.
Hi Everyone,
I was banded in 2006 and lost a fairly small amount of weight (40lbs) but have kept it off. However, over the past couple of years I've had pretty bad reflux which recently caused my Dr. to completely unfill me and send me for a barium swallow test. I will get the results tomorrow I believe.
My concern is, I'm completely unfilled and burping like nobody's business. It doesn't matter if I eat or not. This morning I didn't have an opportunity to have anything bu****er and I couldn't believe what was happening. Any ideas what could be going on? Would they be able to tell what the issue was from the swallow test? Just wondering if anyone has been here before. Thanks!

Did you check with the insurance first to see if it is a covered item? It is not covered under all policies. If it is a covered item then you will need to appeal, in that case there should be directions on the denial letter telling how to appeal.
I love it when people give medical advice without a license! Only your doctor can suggest if surgery is recommended or not. I just visited my doctor and he knows nothing about removal of lab band after 10 years. He said he would NEVER do any surgery that was not necessary. Why would a lap band patient who is doing fine risk complications of major surgery? Makes no sense to me especially in this society where everything becomes a lawsuit. I sincerely doubt that Allergen is recommending this. Can you imagine the liability?! YIKES! Take advice from your doctor.
Anyone with the Affordable Care Act get approved for RNY? Just got denied-how do I Appeal?
Does anyone know a surgeon in the Kissimmee/Orlando Florida area who will fill a band even though he was not the original Surgeon? Need A Fill!
You are fortunate that they refused True Results as they are a very shady outfit look on the internet for True Results scams, they are not a reputable outfit. They promise you the moon and give you nothing in the end. You may have trouble finding insurance that covers bariatric surgery. There seems to have been a misconception that Obamacare would provide bariatric coverage for everyone when in fact hardly any plans do. The few that do cover it are extremely expensive.
All you have to do is call your provider and ask if it covers bariatric surgery and if so who in your area is covered. The place to start is your insurance, if they don't cover it then you need to go to where you got your insurance and talk to them about coverage that include the surgery because fewer and fewer places cover it. Did they tell you why she wasn't approved? Maybe the insurance just doesn't cover True Results as I said they are a shady outfit. The insurance company has to send you a letter telling why she wasn't approved so that may be the place to start.
How'd it go? Are you doing okay?

Get that thing out of there and don't look back. I firmly believe they should be outlawed. I know this will make some people angry, but even those who achieve success, I believe it comes at a price. I held onto the band for dear life. I kept thinking it was ME. I suffered both physically and emotionally....guess what, IT WAS THE BAND! I personally know 10 people with the band, and of those 10, two have been successful. The surgeon *****moved my band said that his practice only places about 2 a year...and this is A BARIATRIC CENTER OF EXCELLENCE! I think Allergan got many of us to drink "the kool-aid", and I for one will forever have lasting problems from my band. I wish you a happy and healthy BAND FREE life!

First let me say how sorry I am for your losses. I too have had issues with the band. Mine broke at the top by the pouch. Then in 2013 I had it repositioned due to a hernia. I am getting the band removed in October and the sleeve in Jan. I started really watching what I ate the past few days. Wouldn't you know I had a horrible episode with the band tonight. When I eat clean like we are supposed to I get everything stuck.
