Revision on 11/24/15
Topic: RE: New here - Need some advice !

HI! I have had my band for 9 1/2 years. At first I lost weight well, 86lbs, then after year 3 or 4 I started having swallowing problems. All fluid was taken out in 2010 and I didn't return to my do****il 2013. I gained all 86lbs back. I still have swallowing issues and a recent upper GI confirmed something was going on. I had told my doc I wanted to revise to the sleeve and this upper GI sealed the deal. I'm having the band out 11/24.

The band hasn't been my friend for about 5 years but it also helped me to keep my weight under control, so to speak. Without it I'd be huge! There are many who have had success with the band. It's hard to know who is going to have issues and who won't. Heck...I don't even have much hope that the sleeve will get me to goal. I have struggled for so long I feel like there is no hope. We shall see.

Good luck with your decision!

My advise is to NOT get the Labband - I have had a rough 8 years with it and will be revised to Bypass in December. I wish now that I had not gotten it in the first place and am praying that everything is okay when the revision is done. I'm happy for anyone who has had comfortable success but that was not me. Most important thing is for you to do plenty of research and speak to doctors about your concerns.

Wishing you luck with your journey.

The Band isn't a Long Term Weight loss. The revision rates are at 60%. Most Dr's that were placing bands 5 yrs ago are no longer doing them due to the Complications.

You'd be wise to research the Sleeve, Gastric Bypass or Duodenal Switch if your looking for long term WL.

Lots of people on this board have had complications; however, I am not one of them. I love my band, and it was the best decision I have ever made.

Good luck on your journey, whatever you choose. :)

I'm banded since 2009 and I can only give my opinion .

I was all for the band and nobody could gangrene mind.... Flash forward to living with and eroded band... Insurance is giving a hard time about removing it , bc I'm not 100 lbs overweight they won't do any other weight loss surgery so if I have it removed I will gain all my weight back .

Minor fills can render you unable to swallow spit and hiccups can cause irritation that cause days of being unable to eat.

Your ur insurance could possibly change and even fills would not be covered not to mention you could face living with an implant that could kill you or at the minimum doesn't work anymore after several years .

Also, was told that it's not an " emergency " unless I begin vomiting and it doesn't get better ! HA! Wow

I'm currently waiting on paperwork from the dr . Did those women have any warning ?

Tgese people take their time about deciding if they will see you or not. A lot of Drs I called said that they won't see band patients bc they don't put them in anymore. I've even contacted realize....

Hi there Hislady,

I am sorry to hear you had so many complications with your band, did you get a revision too or just band removed?

I am not having any complications medically - just the fact that I cannot find that sweet spot in the green zone, I am either too loose or too tight, so go from eating like a normal sized meal to throwing up every meal - even with the slightest adjustment.... Fill, Unfill, Fill, Unfill at $60 per shot.... with no sustainable weight loss inbetween...

I think it may be ok to have in one surgery as not in pain/no heart burn etc but risk is when they get in and find needs 2 operations, equals extra expense (self pay)....

Just in 2 minds - but I am bigger now than before the band by about 4kg.... :0(
