Also, the traffic on this board is very telling!!!!!  When I had my band placed in 2008, this board was hopping.....now, there isn't even a new post every day.  To me that means that folks are having them removed, and that the number of lap band surgeries has greatly decreased!!!!!  Hopefuls and new patients post like crazy.  This board.........crickets!

I disagree.  There are many more band complications.  Research it and you will see.  Most surgeons won't even place the band now.  I am so glad you are having good results with yours, but I am afraid you are the exception, not the rule.

Topic: RE: Endoscopy done now need ultrasound. Worried!

Hmmm, I wonder what they are wanting an ultrasound for?  I am a sonographer, and it is impossible to see the esophagus or stomach with ultrasound.  The only thing I can think is that they may think it is your gallbladder.....if you still have yours.  Sometimes the gallbladder can cause symptoms that mimic ulcer, or other stomach issue.  I wish you the best, and hope you get everything resolved.  I had my band out three years ago, and that was the best decision of my life!!!!! I am having a revision to sleeve in late December!!!!  Say bye bye to that awful band.  You will be glad that you did!

Topic: RE: I want my lap band removed after 10 years.

Hi Sally!

You posted in 2012 that you had an erosion.  I don't know how you still can be standing for 3 years with an erosion.  I also don't know who would remove your band and revise you to another weight loss surgery with the condition of your stomach.  You would have to heal for months after band removal.

And no doctor can make you have a revision.  That's nuts!  Get your band removed once and for all.  Sounds silly to think a surgeon has to revise you.  They would need to have a huge malpractice policy to pay for a lawsuit.  Their license to practice medicine could be revoked if they did that against your will.

I simply had my band removed and No revision for 6 months when I DECIDED to have a revision.  Now the surgeon will have to do some work on your stomach because of your erosion . . .though I suspect you would not be breathing after 3 years with an untreated hole in your stomach.  Hmmmm?

Travel if you need to to get what is necessary.

All best to you.  I remember you from the early days here.  Surely one of your kids or grandkids could get you where you need to go.

All best, Layla

If the band has done to much damage they may feel you will have to have the revision to repair it.  Not just to do another surgery.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Topic: Endoscopy done now need ultrasound. Worried!

ive been having problems with my band which are mainly reflux issues. I've had the band completely unfilled which worked for awhile but then the reflux returned. A barium swallow showed that nothing was wrong. I went for an endoscopy because I'm considering a revision. They found a polyp but instead of removing it they want me back in for an ultrasound. I'm getting nervous about what this could mean. Anyone else have this happen? I'm ready to have this band out regardless of revision or not but I'm scared about what this could be. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not a band basher and was banded for about 9 years. I lost 130 lbs. with the band. Then, it slipped...and kept slipping. What this meant for me was, horrible reflux to the point of waking up all through the night and throwing up, mostly stomach acid. At this point the only way I could even fall asleep was sitting straight up in bed with a giant reading pillow behind me Still, I got very little sleep due to the incredible reflux. It was horrifying. The doctor kept me unfilled until it would go back into place, and then put a little fill in so I would have some restriction and it would happen over and over again. It was horrible. Finally, the doctor told me it would have to be removed. When he went to remove it, somehow it had wrapped itself around my stomach. I have no idea what this looked like, but in the process, he also cut a small hole in my stomach. It was repaired, but the recovery was not fun.

I gained a lot of the weight back even before it was removed.

I have since revised to the VSG and so far so good.

This is only my experience. You have to do your own research. However, my doctor also does not recommend lap bands anymore, siting too many problems in his office.

There is maintenance with the band as well, for your fills and/or unfills as needed.

DO YOUR RESEARCH, then decide what works best for you.
