I had my port removed about 2 years ago. Recently, I have been having pain where the port once was. When I bend over and move certain ways it stills feel as if I have the port in. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Hi there,
Im new to this forum but felt like responding to your post and supporting the others was the right thing to do. I had a lapband in Sept 2009 at 217 pounds (im 5'2"). I had lost 30 lbs before the surgery, and at my top weight, was 247 lbs. Although I had many pictures to show me what I looked like, I still couldn't believe it was me. I was diagnosed with Diabetes at 40 years old (Im 53 now) and was on a lot of medication, needed insulin, and was tired, depressed and apathetic. I felt dishonest presenting myself as a clinical social worker when inside I felt as bad as my patients, or worse.
After struggling to lose weight on my own, I had the Lapband. There have been ups and downs, tight days, hungry days and vomiting...but in comparison to my life before the band, I remind myself I can do this. I weigh 130lbs now, exercise often, and use the clinic and programs for support whenever I can. You can do this...it is a huge mountain, don't underestimate that. All of us have made sacrifices to be here...lets continue to support each other.
Hi
i just saw my dr. Today about this very problem as I too have a panniculus awaiting a surgical repair. My big issue is since I've lost over 150 pounds and kept it off for 4 + years, my skin cracks and breaks open. My dr. Says they sell soft cotton pads to absorb moisture in these areas. Has anybody ever heard of these or know where they are available. I need to have areas closed prior to surgery
Thanks
Hi Members
Seeing the amazing transformations is one of the biggest motivators in believing YOU CAN DO THIS! I love reading everyone's blog entries daily and can't tell you how many times I see these fabulous before and afters but it appears they were not shared in the photo gallery for the entire community to see.
If you don't want them to show anywhere but your profile that is OK! But since the changes on our site I thought perhaps you didn't realize how to share your success. Here are some instructions on how to let the entire OH community see your hard work and the new AMAZING YOU!
Be sure and share your success with the entire OH community by adding your before and afters photos to our B&A photo gallery.
Click your user name in the upper right hand corner of the blue bar.
Add your before and afters at the bottom right of your profile page.
Be sure and click the little icon to the right to share with our community, then save.
That's it

My dr did say the same thing last week about not revising from band to sleeve because of it not being successful and also due to some pressure the sleeve can put on the area of the stomach the band had damaged . I am not convinced that he is correct just because there are things he has told me that are not true upon further education. What I have found is that he pushes his patients towards the gastric bypass ... But I did want you to know that your dr isn't the only one saying this .
Yes I will push. By now he has figured out I'm not a laid back and let him decide for me kind of patient . Don't get me wrong ... I know they have more knowledge and skill but I know my body and my band . We've been friends for nearly 7 years but now it's time to part ways .
I have my next appt March . I will insist on the scope because the g.I. showed everything was perfect. Thanks
This is a well known problem with the band and it should be removed asap. The ulceration and polyps are very dangerous and could very well be the beginnings of Barretts esophagus a pre-cancerous condition. You may need to push him more but I would insist he remove the band and do a revision.
As far as if your insurance will cover it, you may need to appeal but if they cover revisions at all they should cover this. The ulcers will just keep getting worse where you are throwing up all the time. Good luck!!
Your doc is crazy!! I know of many (hundreds if not thousands) people who have revised to the sleeve because as most of us know the band is totally useless for weight loss and causes horrible damage to our stomachs. I belong to several failed band forums and nearly everyone whop has gotten a sleeve whether a virgin sleeve or a revision from band to sleeve absolutely loves their sleeves because for the first time they are able to lose weight. It may not be quite as quickly as the bypass but still it works and it works well. If I were able to revise I would have gotten a sleeve for sure. Other health issues prevent that but still I read a great deal about the sleeve before having my band removed and everyone loves them. Your surgeon either doesn't do them or only does bands because what he told you is a bald faced lie. For that reason alone I would find a new surgeon, but if you want a sleeve you will need to find someone else to do it for you!
