Hi Steven,

I'm glad you were able to get the band out and I hope you heal well. Your experience is very familiar. I also have ulcers, severe gastritis, hiatal hernia... those bands really do a number on a person's body. I'm sorry you went through it. You're the second person this week who has mentioned having aspiration pneumonia due to the band! Wishing you the best with healing.  Thanks for sharing... I'm sure you've helped someone else who is going through similar things.

Depends on the damage. I ve had so much damage with the band  I couldn't revise for a min of six weeks if I wanted to  Band was out last week after 8 years and 130 lb weight loss

After six years, the problems became more and more severe until life threatening. So it had to go. Problems were dialated esophagus. Multiple ulcers and sever gastritis. Huge hiatus hernia requiring mesh to repair, gerd reflux thickened esophagus   Regurgitation and aspirational pnomonia.  Even without any fluid in it, stoma swelled where I couldn't drink fluids.  I had a good eight year run. Best  of luck to you

I am so glad I found your post. I was banded six years ago, never had significant weight loss success, started having sharp chest pains about one month ago, had an upper GI, learned my band has slipped, had all fluid removed & am now waiting to hear from my insurance company to see if band removal and/or conversion to sleeve is covered. Doctor says removal most likely covered, but not conversion to sleeve because my BMI is not high enough. Oh the irony of it all! I certainly am not going to pack on the pounds to meet BMI criteria. For now, I sit & wait. At least the pain is gone for now.

Good luck to you - keep me posted. I'm not really sick, just more in pain. I just want it out and will try for the sleeve next.

Good luck. I was so sick with my band. All stopped when I had it removed. Have been on an eating mission ever since, which amazed me, it was like a switch was flipped and I was back to what I was like before the band. Hardly surprising I guess snice they had removed it, but it had been there for 8 years, maybe I was lulled into thinking I could eat normally, band or no band. Huge mistake! Rny next Tuesday, happy days. :)

I didn't have the same issues.  Mine were basically choking on everything I ate.  Yogurt and cottage cheese would give me issues.  Then it got to be more solids wouldn't go down.  It wa**** or miss.  Some days I could eat, some days I couldn't.  I would even gag on water!  I got to be pretty miserable.

So glad it's out!

Thank you so much for posting!  My revision from band to sleeve is at the end of March. I have gained half what I lost. How is sleeve eating different than band eating?  I am only taking 2 weeks off work but I am wondering if that is enough. I spend time at a desk but I run several workshops a week. I just don't want to use all my sick time. I know there will be follow ups I will have to take off work for.
