I support you. I've been banded since June 2007

I can honestly say I have had problems, but, I really haven't had anything major enough to have the band removed. It tells me when to stop eating and I'm around 154 lbs. I consider it a sucess for me so far. I pray it will continue to be a success.

hi Snickerdoodle

If your going to have a sleeve done it may be a wise step to have an Esophageal Manometry done before proceeding to a VSG.

I mention this because if you had what felt like chest pains that was more than likely your Esophagus :( And if it's not functioning properly a sleeve may not be the answer. Better to be safe than sorry ;)

If it's found that you do have issues an RNY or DS are always viable options.

Whenever you have a fill done the Dr should be asking you to Drink water to make sure before even leaving the office that your able to swallow and the band isn't too tight.

Restriction does take time but you may also never experience it , unfortunately some people don't :(

Topic: RE: So disappointed with Lap Band!

 Hi Summerjandersen

What type of port issues are you experiencing? If it's painful, irritated, red or swollen Get it check out! those are signs of Erosion.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3038361/?report=classic

Band erosion

Band erosion is an uncommon complication of LAGB. In this scenario, the band gradually erodes through the stomach wall and into the gastric lumen. The incidence is less than 1%,11,16,17 with a reported prevalence varying from 0% to 11%.19 The etiology of band erosion may be the result of gastric-wall injury during band placement or tight anterior fixation, especially around the band buckle.19

A high index of suspicion is required for diagnosis of band erosion as most patients are asymptomatic. When symptomatic, complaints related to erosion include loss of restriction, nonspecific epigastric pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, intra-abdominal abscesses or port-site infection.

Topic: RE: GERD many years after band

Hi Heather

YES, many ppl that have had Reflux/Gerd with a band. IMHO I believe a lot of times it occurs because the band has slipped and the Dr is clueless.  MINE was when I developed it and then removal confirmed the slip.

It's NOT wise to continue with your band when your reflux is so severe. The night time coughing etc.. will and cause Night time aspiration into the lungs causing Pneumonia,

Any news from the barium Swallow? that too Often shows no band issues, but sometimes it does, like slow esophageal emptying.

 I hope your getting Answers!

Topic: RE: Surgery 5 years ago but experiencing port site pain

How did things go with your Dr Visit?

It's not uncommon for scar tissue /Adhesion to form from Abdominal surgery, even laparoscopic. I've heard of numerous ppl that after having the band removed they were told that the band or tubing had adhered to other organs. Spleen, Liver, stomach,

If you continue to have problems for the port area is important to be proactive!! As Erosion can occur from an infection of the port area.

A police report has been filed. I am not sure why you inparticular feel the need or want to pick my rape apart. I have to protect myself, so I cannot respond, because this is under litigation. I'm unsure why me as a victim, would be treated cruelly. But, you must not understand rape or the longterm trauma that follows. I pray you are never sexually assaulted and you never get the reaction I have received from you. I can no longer write about this since I have an attorney now.

I will keep you in my prayers and hope nothing ever bad happens to you and if it does, you receive compassion and not criticism.

I see no cruel treatment of you. Only understanding and attempting to help.

You're advised to not write about this. This is exactly what I wrote, if you reread the post. I said you should keep it between you and your attorney to PROTECT yourself.

I was sexually assaulted for the first time at about age 4. Have been sexually assaulted many, many times in my lifetime. I have compassion for people who have gone through sexual assault.

Good luck to you.
