ReBanding...info needed
Hi Deedlbugg
You may want to ask your Dr. if he is even placing realize bands,? As recently they decided to discontinue them First of the year I believe. these notifications were sent out to Surgeons Directly. So basically what ever a Surgeon still has is what he can place. But if he's still doing bands then he has probably switched to another Brand. And if your current band has a leak where is it located ? in the tubing or the port? Because the entire band doesn't need to be replaced juts the component that is defective can be replaced. Glad to hear you've had success with your band !!
FYI : the Band isn't reversible and your "WHOLE again" as One poster mentioned, It's ONLY Removable but the damage is permanent as many have experienced. But some as yourself have been. Continued success!
I had a leak as well and as I started to do my research to re-band I decided to revise to rny. Long term results are not great for the band, I saw one stat that said 30-50%failure rate. I did have complications prior to my lap band so was relieved that rny was an option. I was lucky because no erosion or heavy scar tissue so it was a possibility. I love my rny and wish I had done it originally...lessons learned. I've also seen a post from a lap band patient who had 6 revisions with her multiple bands, now she is revising to another procedure which will likely be more risky because of the number of surgeries.
Every situation is unique, it might work fine, but I would not expect it to be a permanent solution.
I know this is an old post but I will respond just in case. I was banded in 2003, went from 311 to 150ish but felt better at a weight of 170ish. My last fill was in 2009 and when I decided I wanted a fill and a check up about a year ago I was at 190 and was starting to feel like I really needed a fill.
I never had any complications with my band. The Dr. did find my esophagus was dilated even though I had no symptoms, but from what he could tell everything else was where it should be.
I may be having my band replaced after we determine the fate of my esophagus. I too am wondering about the newer options because after all the research I did when first deciding to be banded, I don't want the invasive procedures.
I think a lot of the complications come from not having a great surgeon in the first place and not being willing to change eating habits, but of course there are some exceptions because everything isn't for everybody.
Please give a follow-up and let us know what you decided because my time will be coming soon.
I'm coming up on 9 yrs, with a slip at 5yrs which corrected with temp infill. My doctor called me a model patient & we aren't sure why the slip happened.
After a slip it is more likely to happen again & my restriction is not the same - I personally would opt for sleeve surgery. My band experience has been overall good and in 2008 it was an ok choice but today there is more knowledge regarding complications.
