I was banded in 2004 and have been getting left should pain very similar to the pain you get immediately after surgery?

Anyone else had this? Do you know what causes it?

I had severe left shoulder pain while banded, too. (In 2003.) It's usually from the Vagus nerve being irritated or damaged by the band's presence. Scar tissue can build up, causing the nerves that run through the diaphragm and into the top portion of the stomach to be irritated.

Google Referred Left shoulder pain/ Vagus nerve + Lap Band and you will find a lot of info.

Hope you feel better.

Nic and lots of others reported this on the failed band group.  My Doc said they was no bases when they "looked into it".  But, way to may have reported this problem to not be so.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Definitely something going on if lots of people have reported it. It's been happening over the last year and I was banded nine years ago!

It's not happened to me since the immediate post-op phase in 2006.  But I have always understood (as Nic says) that left shoulder pain is due to irritation of the vagus nerve. Worth getting your surgeon's view in case the band has moved slightly or there us a build up of scar tissue.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Why do I always have to be the odd ball (sigh)? I never had the left shoulder pain until AFTER my band was out! Now I get it any time I try to eat too much, good I guess but odd that I never felt it with the band!

Now that is just so typical! Why can't you just ONCE be ordinary?

(please note before anyone reports me for being rude, Hislady and I are old friends! She's much ruder than that to me.)
