Hi everyone, I finally made my decision which wls to have, it will be the lap band. I am going by what is best for me. No matter what wls I get it's up to me to make a life style change, if not surgery was all for nothing. My sister had the gastric bypass about 7 years ago. She gain weight back and decided to have another wls, she got her band about a year ago and loss the weight she gain. There has been a lot of success stories with the band. I know low carb diet is a major factor in my weight loss journey. CHEWING my food well is another factor and last don't eat slider foods ( soup, pudding etc.) By doing this and working out at least 5 days a week. I know my first year post op I should be down 100 lbs Good Luck to everyone on there weight loss journey!!

I wish you all the best.  Just one thing - be realistic! I am a very happy and successful bandster and by losing all my excess weight (109 lbs) in 15 months I was a fast loser! We don't malabsorb and so lose no faster than, say, a Weigh****chers dieter as most of us eat around the same amount WW recommend. So after the first few weeks, losing 1-2 lbs a week is good. So 100lbs in a year is possible but unless you are very large to start with, it is not usual.

Find what works for you. I don't personally worry about carbs but I know many do.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I loss 80 lbs in 5 months on a liquid diet, 5 Years ago. I figure with the band help, I can lose 100 lbs in 12 months. I am very large 356 lbs thanks for your reply.

Good luck. Hope it does everything you want!

Certainly at your weight, you should be able to lose at least 100lbs and it will be faster than for a lightweight even though you will be taking in a lot more calories than with a vlc liquid diet.

I can't say that I agree with your decision, but I respect it.  We all go into this with our own reasons, fears and expectations.  With your weight, you should lose 100 lb easily, since bands average 40-60% of excess weight loss.  I lost 70 my first year.

That said, please keep alert for anything that doesn't feel right.  We're all here to support you regardless of your surgery type.

Best of luck to you on your band journey!!

Steph

In your last post you said you were leaning toward the sleeve 75%.  What made you change your mind?

I was focusing only on the negative part of the Lap Band. From my research all wls have major issues. So many people had the band and loss  over 100 lbs. You tube have a lot of  positive views. The band is out patient procedure and gastric sleeve 3 to 4 days possible more if any leaks. To me lap band minor surgery vrs sleeve major surgery and recovery time is longer  7 to 8 weeks.

Thanks for the reply!  We must be getting out information from very different sources, since my research led me to much different answers.

Good luck to you, regardless. I hope you achieve all of your goals!
