its coming out!!!!
Lucky, I have been looking things up!
in the UK, we have health care provided by our National Health Service. Because this is paid for out of taxes, there us a body called the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) which evaluates all medicines, treatments, surgeries in terms of effectiveness, safety and value for money. It is not a licensing body like the FDA - we have our own equivalent of that. NICE goes one step further and looks at licensed meds and treatments and decides which the NHS can use. Below is their official comment on gastric plication.
It sounds as if there are currently no known negatives but no long term data to say what the future may hold.
The evidence on laparoscopic gastric plication for severe obesity raises no major safety concerns in the short term. There is inadequate evidence about safety in the long term, specifically with regard to the reversibility of the procedure and how it affects the safety of any further gastric surgery that may be necessary. There is limited evidence of efficacy in the short and medium term but more evidence is needed about the long-term efficacy of the procedure. Therefore, laparoscopic gastric plication for the treatment of severe obesity should only be used with special arrangements for clinical governance, consent and audit or research.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Lucky you. I am having my EGD done on Thursday to see what damage there is and then make the plan to get my band out. I am still up in the air as to which revision I want. My husband went with me to the seminar and asked all kinds of questions and then said to me that the bypass would be best.
Best of luck to you I hope there isn't to much or any damage. Oh and definately look at the sleeve and bypass or even the DS, forget about these "new" procedures.
Hi,
i just found out that my band has to come out. I've had it 7 years, lost 94 pounds but started gradually gaining again. I've kept 60 off. I'm terrified to regain the weight! Since I'm having complications requiring the band to come out, I'm hoping to get the sleeve. When I got the band, my insurance wouldn't pay, so I went to MX and paid to have it done. Now my insurance DOES pay for weightloss surgery. Hoping to get a revision, with insurance paying. Anyone have a similar situation?
thanks,
Donna
