went to see the surgeon today. The band is coming out... Hoot Hoot.. I am so happy.. I am having a EGD done to see how much damage is done. Then out with the band. There is a new WeightLoss Bypass. Yes New..After the band is removed the surgeon takes the stomach and folds it over to form a "sleeve", Just like the one in the vertical sleeve, but without the cutting of anything, it is called "gastric plication". I googled it and read everything I could about it..  Cant wait..

Hon it's NOT new and it is NOT like a sleeve except in shape but it doesn't work like a sleeve does. Please read my response on the sleeve forum! I've spent the last 2 years since I had my band emptied studying and reading about different surgeries and this is the absolute worst. Even if I could have a plication for free I would not take it! That is how bad a surgery it is.

I personally would just have the sleeve done.   Listen to Hislady.    Sounds like she's done LOTS of research.   Why would a surgeon do a "sleeve like" surgery and NOT do the sleeve.    Please reconsider getting this done.   Tell your surgeon that you don't want to TRY a surgery that might not work.     Why take a chance on maybe doing a WLS that might not work.     Get the sleeve done and tell them you don't want that.    Just MY opinion.   I personally don't like taking chances on things like surgeries not working.    Good luck to you on whatever you do.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I agree.  If I were having my band out, I would have the regular old fashioned sleeve or a by pass surgery.  I would not recommend the band to anyone.

Sorry had to laugh calling the sleeve old fashioned   I remember in 2011 When I had mine done.  I had to fight the insurance company because they were claiming it to be experimental.

Yes, it is funny that something so new as the sleeve I would call old fashioned.  When I had lap band surgery 3 years ago, it was considered new and untried and Medicare would not pay for it at all.  If I had read further, I probably wouldn't have had the band at that time, but the problems were not as well known as they are now.  From my group, I would say the biggest complication from the Roux n Y is nutrition.  You have to be willing to make sure to take supplements and eat better.

Glad things are going to be sorted for you.

But I echo the others. Reports about plication are mixed! I have no personal opinion as I don't have enough knowledge but I would do a lot of research!  It's not all that new but I don't think it is done all that much - not in the UK anyway.

Best wishes with whatever you decide.

The percentage of EWL in this technique is comparable to other restrictive methods. The technique is safe with 1.6% complication isn't this what they said about the band?? (1% reoperated), and 31% regain during 12 years. The cost of operation is less than the other methods.

Current literature on Gastric Plication and its modifications is limited and sketchy at times. Low cost, short hospital stay, absence of prosthetic material, and reversibility make it an attractive option. Initial data show that LGCP is effective for short- and medium-term weight loss, complication and reoperation rates are low and GERD symptoms are unaffected. More data is required and randomized control trials must be completed in order to reach safe conclusions.

Why not go with the Gold Standard like RNY or the Platinum of Surgeries the DS?

Edited to add. This post doesn't make sense as the previous posts have been removed (presumably as they contained links). Hope this one is within the TOS.

We can't post links but try googling bariatric pal!! Probably the site being referred to. But it is even more pro band than this site is anti-band. As a very happy and successful banded person, I don't go there because there is a lot of misinformation posted which is not challenged. Not saying information about the plication is inaccurate! I don't know enough about it, my comments were based on comments from my UK medical team (national health service so no commercial interest).
