Has anyone personally used the 5 day pouch test?

I'm new to this forum, just ran across it today.  What is the 5 day pouch test?  I had my lap band in 2004 and for the past few years have been fighting weight gain.  I'm back up 40 pounds and need to get back on track.  I'm so disappointed in myself!

Hello. I can relate. You will lose it again The pouch test is like a way to start back on track. Gets you used to eating the band way, reminds you of the early days, and is a good mental helper I've lost about 7 pounds since doing it & starting back to low carb eating. You can see the details online. The website is www.5daypouchtest.com. Weigh first & let the success of losing a few pounds & the feel good feeling of taking a stand to get back on track to motivate you to keep going from there

Try the 10 day Plateau Buster Diet.  It's all protein, less than 20 grams of carbs, you eat every 3 hours for 5 times a day.  It stokes your metabolism and gets the carb cravings out and you start losing again. I have done it so many times since 2008 when I was banded.  I know life on the Turbo Carb Cycling.  I love it!  I went 10 months without one plateau and got to my goal.

I am so jealous!  I Did Atkins to lose, only diet that works for me.  I was never able to turn them, even when I did his test and did pure protein.  Just blessed with a efficient metabolism.blush

I just always did the Plateau Buster Diet.  Eating 5 x a day 3 oz of dense protein each meal.  It works every time.  I've lost between 10 lbs and 17 lbs.  I never felt hungry and it got my  head back in the game.  Eating every 3 hours boosts the metabolism, whereas going without or drinking just liquids tends to slow your metabolism down again and once you start eating solids again, you tend to regain quickly.

I have found that Carb Cycling works like a charm.  I do the Plateau Buster Diet and then went right into carb cycling.  Easy and the loss is significant.

I have never done the 5 day pouch test.  I think it would be very difficult and our Bands are not meant to work with fluids.  I have always done the 10 day Plateau Buster Diet and it works everytime to get my head back in the game and break my carb cravings.  I usually lose 10 to 17 lbs in those 10 days and that always motivates me.

I have been doing the Turbo Carb Cycling for about a year now and I'm thrilled with my results.  I got to goal in 10 months and am loving being able to eat some good fruit on my high carb days.  It's the same diet that Chris Powell puts his Morbidly Obese patients on for his show Extreme Weight Loss.

Ill check it out! I never watched it, but hear its a great show. I probably do that anyway because on special occasions I allow carbs, but my plan is to have 100% low carb days 85-90% of the time. Maybe 2-4 days a month. Ill google it. Thanks for sharing. My surgeon swears low carb is the only way to go so as long as I'm in that realm, I know I'm where he advised me to be. I lost 7-9 lbs so far since I started this post and seeing that it is doing something is helping keep me in track the secret for me is finding allowable replacements for the things not on my plan that I'm craving & being prepared with low carb options. Planning ahead is important. I am more aware of the sensations now, but i can still eat a little more than i could in the first few years. The pouch test helped get me back on track. Best of luck to all of us. We all had major surgery & deserve to be successful. I just have to remind myself that the band only does so much & the harder part is up to me.

Iam with Band, I found your reply surprising as my surgeon stated the band worked best with a liquid diet.  He told me this when I was telling him I only lost on Atkins and I couldn't eat that way with the band.

I have always done the 10 day Plateau Buster Diet and it works everytime to get my head back in the game and break my carb cravings.

I looked this diet up and it is the Atkins 2 week induction diet and the diet I am now able to do with my sleeve. It is what works great for me too.

I think that is so funny.  My LapBand surgeon - the most successful in all the state of Colorado was adament with his patients that we stop all protein shakes once we start regular diets. He said that liquids do not keep us satiated as dense protein does.  Why would anyone want to live on a liquid diet the rest of their lives?  My Band always worked best with dense protein.  I knew if I ate a one cup meal of dense proteien - I would be satiated for 5 hours.  If I got hungry sooner, it meant I needed a fill.  My surgeron would ask every time we went for a fill, "our you drinking your protein or eating it?"  If we were drinking it, he sent us home without a fill saying we were not using our Band the way it is meant to be used.

Have you tried Carb Cycling?  I absolutely love it.  I lost 149 lbs in 9.5 months doing the Turbo Carb cycle - no stalls or plateaus.  It is basically eat every 3 hours, 3 oz of dense protein.  On Low carb days, I eat 20 grams of protein for breakfast only, (fruit or veggies only) On High carb days, I eat 20 gms per meal for the first 3 meals only and the last two only protein.  The carbs are only veggies and fruit carbs.  I love it.  I'm a fruit girl, so it was a pleasure to eat fruit again after so many years with the Lapband and living the Atkins Induction.
