E Coli would have nothing to do with band tightness or acid reflux. It's usually contracted from contaminated food or water.

Congratulations on your incredible weight loss, by the way.

I agree, E Coli is a bacteria I believe.  Wouldn't have anything to do with your band.  Keep up the good work, 9 years wow.  That is awesome!

Not sure how a very specific strain of a bacteria would be band related.

E. coli comes from poop, not a tight band and acid reflux!

You develop an E. coli infection when you ingest this strain of bacteria. Potential sources of exposure include contaminated food or water, and person-to-person contact.

Contaminated food
The most common way to acquire an E. coli infection is by eating contaminated food.

Contaminated water

Human and animal feces may pollute ground and surface water, including streams, rivers, lakes and water used to irrigate crops.

Personal contact  E. coli bacteria can easily travel from person to person, especially when infected adults and children don't wash their hands properly. Family members of young children with E. coli infection are especially likely to acquire it themselves.   Now acid reflux IS from the band.

I don't know if Echoli would qualify, but I have a friend who had an infection attach itself to her band, the silicone.  She had to have her band removed.  While the other responders seem to know about how to contract echoli I would definately ask your surgeon if it would be possible to somehow attach itself to the silicone band or tubing.l

Just a guess.  I have no idea of this is possible.

Take care,

It might when first placed but nine years later only if it has eroded.  Than the E choli could be hanging onto the artificial material in the stomach.  Also the way they over sew the band causes a pocket/hook, she could have a pocket of the E choli hanging around in there that the meds aren't clearing up after ingesting it the first time.

Either way it isn't something to mess around with and they need to get to the bottom of the problem. Depending on the strain, it can be very, very bad.
