Tim, I am so happy you came to OH to start your research. It could be a decision that saves your life.

Please include duodenal switch (DS) in your research. One of the most knowledgeable OHers I know is MsBatt. She has done extensive research on the DS surgery. I hope you'll take a look at her many posts.

I went to my first consultation with my surgeon to inquire about the lapband. That was September 2011. On my first meeting with him, he immediately & unequivocally steered me away from the lapband. I wish he would have just came right out & said that he'd encountered serious problems with the lapbands he'd put in, but I guess he couldn't do that for legal reasons. He recommended open RNY for many good reasons, not the least of which was the fact I was type 2 diabetic (insulin dependent) & the RNY could put the diabetes into remission (which, ultimately, it has).

I only heard about the DS after I'd had RNY. I'm thrilled with my results. I do wish I'd had the information about the DS, though, so I could have made a more informed choice.
