Anyone 8 years plus out and NOT had problems

I was the biggest cheerleader for the Lap Band and had great weight loss with it. Although I never made it to goal before I developed a dilation, 4.5 years ago . In that time, I have had reflux, weight gain. And now really bad night reflux to the point of gaging in my sleep.

I have read all kinds of information about how studies are showing at about 5 years out folks are having problems with the band leading to removal/revision.

Wanted to see for those 8 years out and more, have you NOT had problems?

I feel like such a failure, but at the same time, mad at the band.

The revision Dr. I have seen tells me that he will no longer do the bands due to the issues I am having and the erison.

Would love to hear from you.

Check out the failed band group.  You aren't a failure, the band failed you.  I have not read here of ONE person that didn't have some issue even if resolved.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I only know of a couple that far out with little or no complications. I'm almost 6 yr out but have been empty for the last couple of years and have gained about 20 lbs all tho I think most of that is from the prednisone I take. If you are having reflux that bad you should really get a partial unfill to help relieve it. It can cause aspiration pneumonia if it gets in your lungs while you are asleep, very dangerous. The band has been a nightmare for so very many of us! Please don't feel guilty, you did nothing wrong, the band is just a bad product. Allergan flat out lied about alot of band complications and that it was supposed to be a life long solution, now they say it's only good for 5-10 yrs! We were hoodwinked when we believed what they told us.

If you Scroll though the Recent Posts I also Posted looking for anyone that was 10 years out Without any Complications, I didn't get any positive responses..Although I've always heard that people that are that far out with a Band are just too happy and Don't post. Otherwise the people that did post of Longevity have it and just Deal with the complications, IF and When they can, but that is just My opinionenlightened

I am 6 years out.. and have not reached goal.. mainly because i myself and losing focus.. eating the wrong things.. when you have had the band for so long and you get tire of the throwing up all the time.. which I am not that ristricted.. I have 3.5 cc in a 4 cc band that hold 5 cc's.. I had initially lost almost 60 lbs til my family dr put me on meds and the medicine caused me to gain all but 20 lbs back.. then my husband and I separated and I lost 25 lbs then.. we are back together and I have been able to maintain my weight between 250-255..

I know for a fact

1) I don't get enough protein

2) alot of times you learn to eat around the band.. especially when you feel frustrated.. and that defeats the purpose of why you had it done in the first place.

3) The ones that supported me on my journey.. tried really hard to help me keep on track and I'd just get mad at them.

4) I've had 1 problem where I had to have a little taken out.. I had gotten really upset and omg.. not a thing would go down

5) My commitment to exercise just wasn't there.. they best thing you can do.. is have someone hold you accountable for your for what you eat and how you exercise.

I think the biggest problem I have twith my band is the I have a huge craving for sweet stuff.. and that is one of my biggest problems.. and when they say chew chew chew..yea..chew a little bites.. I lost track of all the rules I followed to a T for the first year and then it was like a became apart of my.. my husband gets upset with me when i do get stuck and says he wants me to have it removed.. I believe if I went back to the basics I could finish this thing out..Some yes have slipped bands or erosions.. but I was thinking of having a revision to a sleeve.. but then today.. I read my profile that I haven't looked at in a long that because I haven't been on here.. I did this for a reason.. everything fell into place for me to have the band like it was almost to good to be true..I have this tool inside me that I am supposed to be working with to help me lose the weight.. not it do it for me.. I have gotten more protein shake mix to try to get my protein in.. but I have to have them later in the day.. I also used to chew gum when I thought I was hungry.. or draw.. the only thing is.. I am hardly every hungry.. but my biggest weakness is sodas.. which I can live without.. and sweets.

but to answer your question i've had no complications.. i guess the reason I was even thinking of a revision is I didn't want to do the work to lose the weight.. and it doesn't work like that..

sorry this is soo long I just had a huge reality check when I came on here tonight and read my profile of why I had the surgery done in the first place..

Just hand my band removed after 7 years. Reflux, Barrett's, gastritis, more reflux for the past 3.5 years. I had reached goal, now have gained 40 of 60 back in the 2 yrs. I totally relate to your list, ESP. # 1,3 and 5.  Just wanting to take it slow and heal.

I meant to say # 1, 2 and5. Eating around your band is too easily learned...

yes I agree it is.. way to easy.. and that's what I have got to quit doing.. I am maintaining my weight where I am.. but not happy about where I am with it.. I know I don't need a fill because there are things I have problems with.. I also pu**** way to much that I should..so I will admit.. my failure is no ones fault but my own!! I had a huge reality check when I came back on this page and read my profile and remembered how excited I was to be leading or on my way to leading a healthier lifestyle.. but its like I let the stress of my husband being laid off and marriage problems and problems with kids get the best of me when I still should have thought about my journey and what it meant to me.. its hard at times.. because i never put myself first.

I will flat out tell you I had this surgery done for many reasons.. one I wanted a healthier lifestyle.. I hated the way i looked.. (some pics of my page) two,, I didn't want kids making fun of me to my kids and humiliating them... 3.. I did do this for myself as I wanted to lose weight.. especially after I saw the photos that were my wake up call.. 4) I hoped and prayed that i would lose enough weight to keep my husbands eyes from wondering.. ha.. guess I didn't lose enough weight to begin with.. he ending up leaving me 4 years later for a mutual friend.. we were separated for 11 months and are now back together.. couldn't tell you what the out come with my as we get along fine other than disagreements on our three teenage kids that seem to hate each other and do nothing but fight.. and disrespect us no matter how the discipline goes..

I was hospitalized in Nov and thought i had a bowel obstruction.. because I have a hernia to be repaired when i do loose enough weight.. they still don't know what caused it.. or what the problem was.. I was kept in the hospital for 3 days... I sat in a hospital room alone most the time unless the nurses of cleaning people were in there.. i was supposed to go to a gastro dr.. but because of my husbands problems and his job.. he has to be taken care of first so the money we have goes to his visits.. and i put myself on the back burner..I have a lot of pain in my left side at the bottom or below or behind my left ribcage... i will honestly tell you i'm afraid to even find out what it is!!

sorry I know i probably gave too much info.. but alot of these things are reasons for failure with th band other that erosion and slippage

I am 5 1/2 years out and I only have 2cc's in my band. I had most of the fluid removed so that I could eat. Imagine that. I started working out vigorously and I could not get enough food in me to sustain my workout efforts. My body was lacking nutrients and because I had been on such low calories for so long, my metabolism was shot. I cant lose weight. I am toning and tightening and that is all good but I cannot lose weight. I recently came off insulin because of my diet and exercise but I cant lose weight. LOL! Ironic huh! I do not regret my band because it made me wake up and realize that I was dying at the rate I was going. It allowed me to lose enough weight that I can and do bootcamp 4 times a week. I am 52 years old and I can out perform a lot of people younger than me and I love it. I learned that I could not rely on the surgery to make me a new person, so I took matters into my own hands. I am certainly a new person now. I have never been so alive. EXERCISE people, it is the key to it all along with proper diet and clean eating.
