Can someone please tell me what happens after the removal of the lapband?

Ive had mine for four years and it slipped.

Is it painful? Recovery time? Diet after surgery?

Thank you

I still have mine but from what I've read here it is about the same pain level as having it put in, altho the area where the port is attached is sometimes more painful for a longer period of time for some people. Recovery time about the same and diet is usually just a normal diet unless there is a lot of scar tissue and then they may want you to go easy on foods to not aggravate the tummy for awhile. I wish you the best, are you having another surgery for weight loss or just having the band removed and trying it on your own?

For me it was easier by far.

The only pain was from the incisions.  I didn't experience any pain internally specific to the band being gone.

The only difference I felt was immediate relief from Reflux and the ability to eat anything I wanted after about 3 days.

Unfortunately I am gaining weight rapidly.  I plan to revise to RNY once the insurance criteria is met.

Don't put it off.  Having a slipped band is no fun and you should get immediate relief from any symptoms you are experiencing.

Best,

As was mentioned, usually It varies. Make sure your Surgeon is going to remove ALL SCAR tissue, for some non-removal can be an issue. Recovery is about the same as the band, maybe even easier. A few days to a week (depends) on your pain tolerance.

I found like others eating after  removal a breeze compared to having the band, deviland have been fortunate not to have regained, but my removal was in April.  Your Doctor might want you to do a pre-op Diet some only want you to Fast before?

GOOD LUCK!

My surgery for removal was called at 9:15 am and was home at 1:30 and that included a 25 minutes drive. The pain was about the same as banded and the recovery wasn't much different.  They didn't give me any diet before or after which seems strange and non of the testing. I was even given gram crackers in recovery. I was just out there without any support/plan.

Wow that's strange, you should have gotten support!

I had the best care, great nurse, I have to inject myself with blood thinners for 30 days to prevent clotting. Gave me heavy meds for pain which I don't really need.  I can only eat mush and graduate to solid by end of week. It was a good experience. I have some shoulder pain. In 3 months I will do the sleeve.

Best of luck to you, I would ask them why they didn't care for you properly.

Sorry about that, hope you are doing well..

They consider the band removal a non issue.  They have been taken in by the hype that the band is "reversible."  So after it is out you are treated as though never banded.  They just follow up on the incision healing.

I am really liking my sleeve!  I can eat small amounts of most anything at 7 months out.  Regular bread has to be eaten with care but, can eat a little bit without issue.
