Lapband replacement

Has anyone had a band leak and had it replaced and if so how successful were you after?  We tried for a revision to gastric bypass, but where I work my insurance only  covers 1 bariatric surgery per lifetime.  So I can either have it taken out or replaced and of coarse I'm going for having it replaced.

Actually the failure rate for second bands aren't good , but  since you've decided  to have it fixed you might want to read this because from what you posted if a second band fails then your only option is to have that replaced with a Third band ?http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17593435

Good Luck

Disappointing to hear :(, but I don't have any other choice. Insurance won't cover a revision to gastric bypass and I can't give up yet. Have to give the lapband another shot and pray that I don't have any problems the second time around. I so wish I had the money to get gastric bypass....

I personally know someone with a 4th lap band, and she is doing very well. I guess it's no different than getting several revisions from the Sleeve and Bypass, like re-Sleeving and Bypass to Bypass which does not work. I just lurked the Revision forum and seen where a girl had the band, then the Sleeve and now is getting the Bypass from horrible reflux from the Sleeve.

I guess it's no difference than gaining weight back from the Bypass and Sleeve? Some people would just rather keep getting the band, at least they will have restriction, I've seen ppl in my support group to revise from band to Sleeve and no longer have restriction, and they are now just stuck with dieting.

From what I see, all of the weight loss surgeries fail at some point, so some ppl would rather just keep getting bands since it does not involve rearranging the plumbing.

You aren't really telling the whole story here.  Actually, you are being very dishonest.

The person posting on the revision forum had a band and esophageal damage.  She should have never had a sleeve to begin with because of the esophageal damage.  Her reflux isn't from her sleeve, her reflux is from band damage.  The sleeve merely didn't fix it.

Remember I TRIED to tell you that when the band does its job on the esophagus the only fix is bypass?  Hello???

My band leak was repaired about three years ago. The band was not replaced; the leaking area of tubing was cut out and reconnected. No problems since.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Thank you Kate, I needed to hear something positive. I pray that after mine is repaired, I won't have anymore problems.

Best of luck to you! I hate when people criticize your only option. You are fixing the problem and getting control back. Progress is in your future!

Show me the post where someone criticized her only option?  She asked a question and it was answered honestly.  We don't write the stats and honesty isn't a criticism.

Things can and do go wrong with everything.  All I can give is my personal exprieince.  I know IRL only two other people in addition to myself who had leaks; both were successfully repaired several years ago.  And, again IRL, I have met just two people who had bands replaced. One is now about seven years with her second band, the other is about four years. Both fine.

I just found out last Friday that not only do I have a leak, but my ban slipped and the surgeon thinks it actually came unbuckled. I go in for a barium swallow Monday an see what the plan is from there. Not sure if I will revise or go without anything. I'm 35 pounds from goal.
