Frustrated!!!
I have had my band for three years now. I lost 100 pounds, but I have gained 40 back. When I go in for fills, I am told my anatomy looks great, and my fill is good. Here's my issue: when I take my time and eat slowly, I eat more food. I don't eat to the point of pain (learned my lesson), and I eat until I feel satisfied, not full. Today I ate the following: small coffee from McDonalds, berry banana smoothie (homemade, all organic, no dairy, about two cups), two spinach enchiladas with two tablespoons beans and two tablespoons rice, two pieces Papa John's pizza with three bread sticks. Disclaimer: I don't eat pizza and breadsticks often (like once a month), and I eat pretty healthy on a regular basis. I just get so frustrated because I feel like I shouldn't be able to eat all of that through out the day!!! Does anyone else have this issue? Please help!! Thanks!
How long are you taking to eat your meals? If you take your time and that is an extended period of time, then your pouch has more time to empty leaving you more space to eat.
Are you drinking with your meals? When WLS'ers drink with their meals, they can eat more because with the fluid they are flushing the food through.
Also, if you eat more lean protein, that will provide a sense of satiety much more than the slider foods of the smoothie, beans, etc. It seems as though you should eat more lean protein because that will give you satiety for longer and you'll eat less.
Do you use the OH Health Tracker to log your food and activity? You could use our HT and share with your surgeon/nutritionist for them to review to give you more information for your food consumption. You can also see how much protein, carbs you're eating and other nutrients.
I'm a newbie to the band, but if your doc is telling you the fill looks good, but you don't feel it, maybe your doc is wrong? You need fills when you lose weight because you have less tissue around your stomach. If you can eat a large volume and a lot of doughy things, sounds like you need a fill. Maybe go back to the rules? A week of dense proteins followed by veggies and then a tad of non- refined carbs?
