Saturday intake 20 oz protein drink, 10 oz water, 8 oz chicken broth. Sunday= 22 oz protein drink 12 oz water. Got appt with new local wls dr. for monday. He ordered upper GI. Radioligist said band needs to come out but not an emergency. Monday intake 22oz protein drink, 12 oz water, 4 oz ice cream(I know) tuesday intake 11 oz protein drink, bowl broccoli soup (no chunks) insides of small peice of soft fish., 15 oz water.

Get the band out asap!   you can damage your body.  I think that it is totally irresponsible of the radiologist to act like it is not an emergency to get your band out.  You want to be healthy not screwed up due to the band causing issues!

I wish you well!!

I'd have to agree, that was irresponsible of the Radiologist to tell you anything, If your not able to eat/rehydrate THAT IS and Can be an emergency, And your NOT ALONE, this happens more than you can imagine, sometimes it's scar tissues under the band. Good Luck on Monday!

Call immediately to find out if you can see your new Bariatric surgeon before Monday to review the UGI. Tell them that you can't take in liquids. At the very least, you need a total unfill so you can hydrate properly.  The radiologist is not a band expert and it sounds like he didn't tell you what the issue is.  It's likely a slip because of the sudden tightness and sometimes they can be resolved with a total unfill but there could be other issues that would require you to have the band removed.  The surgeon is the expert.

I hope they are able to see you immediately to give you some relief!

Prayers,

Lisa O.

I agree at the least you need to be unfilled.  When I had that happen for  just for a couple hours they had me into the hospital to be unfilled some.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Have been unfilled for 3 years due to previous issue. So there is no fluid to remove. Thank you for the response.

Than you most likely are looking at a slip or scare tissue building up under the band.  As it came on so fast most likely a slip.

Radiologist says no slip. (can't say I agree with him LOL)

My radiologist told me no slip my first visit to the ER also.  Sent me home after having me on IV for about an hour, CT scan, blood work, saying I just pulled a muscle.

Next day, still couldn't keep food down, not even water at this point.  Went back to ER, they were releasing me again when my blood work came back and they found my white blood count high.  Did another CT scan with dye, the radiologist there still could not see anything so they sent it to a larger hospital where a bariatric surgeon just happened to be on call that night.

Next thing I know, they were rushing me by ambulance to the larger hospital where I immediately went into emergency surgery to take the band out because it had twisted the anterior portion of my stomach cutting off all blood supply.  They had to removed almost half of my stomach due to necrosis and gangrene setting in.

That surgeon told me that if I would have been another 12 hours, I would have been dead.  He was not sure that I was even going to make it when he first saw me.  I spent the next 8 days in the hospital and the next 2 months with a feeding tube hanging out of me.  NOW, a year and a half later, I have more health problems than I have ever had in my life all resulting from that....

Get into the ER immediately and demand they do something...
