I have United Healthcare...   I am 35 BMI...   I am so totally bummed out.. It took me a long time to decide on which procedure I wanted finally got right in my head and now I am rejected....    Told I would have to weigh 27lbs more or be on some type of meds.

Oh darn, I am sorry. That makes me nervous because I have a 34 BMI and am trying to get a revision with Oxford/United Healthcare.

I hope you appeal their decision.

Some insurance make you start over with the same requirements as for the first WLS and some are more in tune.  They realize that you already showed need with the first surgery and as long as the band caused medical problems you need the revision.

Good luck getting your approval!

Most insurance state your have to have a bmi of 40 or more or have a bmi of 35 with other co-morbs.  I had high blood pressure and was boarder line diabetes with a thicken heat valve.  I had had my band removed for problems and still had to met the bmi of 35 with co-morbs to get the revisions surgery.

Maria-  An appeal isn't going to work in this case.  She just plain doesn't meet the requirements.  She's self pay for the time being.

Maybe this is a blessing you just can't see yet.  It gives you more time to consider safer surgery types?

But I still understand the disappointment.

You can do what most do, self pay.  But I would never self pay for a band, that is amazingly expensive.
