Hello, brand new bander (6 days postop) and I have a question about gas. I was told the gas I'm experiencing was due to the surgery itself, but I go back to work tomorrow and am concerned about embarrassing passing of that gas. How long does gas last post surgery? Sorry if this has been answered before; I'm not sure how to 'search' for answers on this site
Thanks

Congrats on your surgerylaugh....yes most people do experience some gas and shoulder pain after band surgery, I took chewable GasX, walked, and sipped on room temp liquids, and that helped tremendously.

Good luck

internal gas from the C02 that is put into the abdomen for surgery is totally different then flatulence enlightened and sorry to say it might never end, it's part of life in general just remember this phrase "excuse me " or oops "I'm sorry" Men seem to have this problem and they think it's 'normal" ...lol Women not so much, we tend to feel embarrassed ..but it happens and when I was banded it seemed more prevalent

The CO2 gas can be walked out.  That is one reason it is so important to walk, we were to do 10 minutes every hour.  Now you can use Gas-X strips.  This will help for the other gas.  I was a master Belcher for the first couple weeks which helped relive the gas a lot for me.  Good luck at work!

I couldn't sleep on my side for a couple months.  I'm a side sleeper and it was miserable.  I slept on my back with lot's of pillows. I would wake up in the night in pain from trying to turn over in my sleep.  I also could no longer sleep on my stomach for good.

I wasn't up to working for 4 weeks with the band.
