Thanks to the Sleeve Board, I've lost 6 more pounds by EXTREME dieting and protein drinks

I was lurking the Sleeve board and noticing that those who are losing weight QUICKLY are only doing liquids and keeping their calories between 500-600 calories per day.

Well I considered this starvation diet and thought it may further ruin my metabolism with my band. But I tried this last week for 5 days and I lost 6 pounds in one week.

Thank god with my restriction level with my band I can easily switch from liquids and soft foods to solids, with my old band if I only drank protein drinks I would be starving in a few hours, but for some reason my new band I can drink a thick chocolate Soy milk with a scoop of Unjury protein powder and not be hungry for about 5 hours.

But thankfully, I still can eat solids when I want, because I went out to dinner last night and ate 2 chicken fingers, 3 teaspoons of salad, and 3 teaspoons of baked sweet potato and was stuffed....did I say I love my band for allowing me to switch up between liquids and solids...

Back to liquids this week, I hope to get off 5 more pounds this week, for my upcoming vacation to Vegas, California and Lake Tahoe for 2 1/2 weeks, because I know I will be eating yummy foods there, but hopefully my new band SuzieQ will keep my meals small to prevent too much damage.

Now off to my 2 mile walk

Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*,  lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!

Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight downsmiley

I wish you would just suck it up and get a sleeve already cool

I've always "wondered" why Sleevers get so defensive about their surgery, I was actually being helpful I thought, and was just "trying out" the Sleeve diet.

The Lap band diet has a variety of veggies and not strictly proteins averaging about 800-1200 calories per day, I guess our diet plan is more because we don't have a time frame before our restriction goes away or gets less over time and we bansters are not really tight until we get about 6 months post.

I really don't get the hostility with some Sleevers...it makes me a bit suspicious about the Sleeve...I don't care who get the band or the Sleeve, I am very happy with my choice...and I surely don't try to shove a surgery down someone' else throat -- like a lot of people do with the Sleeve, I believe that misery sure loves company.....

I will tell you if I had to live on 500 calories a day I would be a $itch too...

I think (and am sure you likely know) that the reason a few sleevers pop in and post on your threads are to correct intentional misinformation you seem to enjoy spreading. I'm not really sure what your purpose for this is, but it does get amusing at times.. kind of like rubber-necking.

A couple points: the basic "Sleeve Diet" is generally 600-1000cal/day (depending on gender/activity/) of real whole lean proteins, plenty of low-sugar (read non-starchy) veggies and some fruit on occasion if desired. Many stay at or under 40g carbs (plenty of veggies at that level) but not all go that low.. Some don't do low carb and choose to just eat a standard 800-1200 cal/day intake.. it's whatever works for that person.

I don't speak for anyone else, but when I was only eating 500 cals a day, I felt like I was feasting! When you get comfortably full on so little food, without pain- day in and out with no restriction fluctuations- it's wonderful. To this day, I wake up knowing that one egg, some avocado, and a tiny sliced tomato will satisfy me for hours.

I see very very little misery on the sleeve board. A few complications happen just as in any other WLS, but far fewer than I see with other surgery types, and a great number less complaints (both small and large) than I see on band boards.. Misery loves company huh?

Absolutely totally agree!  The stuff about the liquid diet from the OP is pure BS.  The only people that I have seen on the sleeve board doing a liquid diet are early out of surgery just like most of the band patients are on a liquid diet during the first couple of weeks.

You are often very hostile about the band, especially to those of us who have suffered band-related issues.......no one is trying to "shove the sleeve down people's throat." I come here, from time to time, to be supportive. I have survived lap band issues and I want others to know that it can and will get better. WLS is a very personal choice and everybody has to make the right decision for themselves. It is important to get perspectives from all sides. I just don't get the "surgery wars"....you love your second band.  That's great! I love my sleeve. That's great too! Can't we just be happy for one another without spreading misinformation and attacking one another?!?

I haven't been on there much lately. but what I always noticed is the very successful ones ate mostly solid food, but stuck to mainly only protein, and NEVER went over 20 grams of carbs, INCLUDING their vitamins.  Well, I know me......and that's never going to happen!  LOL

I know that a lot of people lose their appetite with the sleeve, but I didn't.  I had better appetite control with the band.  HOWEVER, I can eat healthier with my sleeve, so it's a trade-off.  *sigh*

This is why no WLS is perfect for every person.

I am glad that this is working for you.

I am not sure what you mean though that the most successful sleevers only drink liquids.  My program, which is very successful, calls for full liquids for two weeks after surgery to allow for healing of the new sleeve stomach.  Than we are told to eat solid, lean protein and low carb veggies.  We are told to keep our calories in the 600-800 range until goal.  Then, in maintenance, we figure out what our threshold is for maintaining weight.  It is really different for everyone.  I seem to need about 1200-1800 calories a day and probably stay closer to 1500 calories to maintain my 105 lbs. weight at 5' 1".  That is about what other thin people my size eat.  If/when I gain a few pounds, I go back into my weight loss mode and eat closer to 800 calories for a week or so and than I am good to go.

We are never told to go all liquids during the weight loss stage, but if it's working for you and you are getting enough protein... that's great.

By the way, I know a few successful band people that are really happy with their band and I have no desire to convert anyone to a sleeve.  :)  I just want everyone to find their happy place with obesity.  The happy place is different for everyone.

I think when you put extreme in all caps that really doesn't express helpful. And when I was on 600 calories I was actually pleasant and in no way a ***** so that comment was uncessary. I was just fine because that is what my tool was there for to help me with volume and consuming tons of calories. And at all almost 3 years out if I had to lose weight and went back to the initial way of eating with the sleeve (not dieting!) I would be just fine, because the restriction is there.

Congrats on your weight loss.

"Enjoying my life and the confidence to experience more!

Oh for Pete's sake.. the only time I see sleevers doing liquids only is during the healing phase.. unless someone opts to go the route of all liquids for some crash-diet purpose like you are doing.. good luck, glad it's working for you- just keep an eye out as doing this, as regardless of surgery type, it tends to bring a re-bound weight gain fairly soon after. I and many others are big advocates of healthy low-cal eating when you need to lose fast for some reason, there's nothing special about all liquids.. I opted to get away from crash-dieting and yo-yoing after the VSG, and just eat a normal healthy lower-carb intake- and so far, maintaining with ease.

Early out- yes, most of us can only eat 500-800 cals a day of SOLID food, and many need a protein shake or two/day for the first 6mo or so since the stomach is tight and swollen that some cannot get in enough protein by solids alone (not painful, just no room!) I lost about 10lbs a month till goal (not slow imo), and have never been back on all liquids since my stomach healed up after those first couple weeks.. I ate 600-900/cal a day during that time, of real food. And for what it's worth- my restriction at 2+ years out is the same as it was at the 9mo mark, very snug.. When a sleeve is made well, there is very little to no stretching once full healing is over at 6-9mo post-op. I have a loaded protein coffee in the am and don't get nibbly for about 5hrs.. I still do this since I love my protein ice coffee in the summer. Protein or protein & fats together tend to be very satisfying, so my protein coffee always has a little cream in it. Good luck with the all liquid diet, I wouldn't enjoy that- I like to chew too much!
