Lapband lost 132 pounds
Hi Everybody,
I post very little on the lap band forum because it gets more problem posts than rave posts. I just want to share with you a success story. I had the lap band put in when I weigh 301 LBS. I was overweight almost my entire life. Everybody is different so you have to learn as you go what is good for you. First I would say you have to be 100 percent committed to the band in your mind to succeed and can wait for how ever long it takes to lose all your extra weight.
I lost 80 LBS the first year and kept it off for 4 years. I never unfilled my band and only filled it twice. Just because this work for me does not mean it work for you.
After a stand still because I was still emotionally eating ice cream and sweets I could not lose more than the initial 80 LBS. I can not eat more than one bite of bread and bread use to be my favorite source of calories. (Subs,Pizza,Rolls and Butter etc...So I replaced bread with ice cream.
Long story short a year ago I made a promise to stop eating sugar and ice cream and now have lost a additional 53 LBS. I would like to lost 28 more lbs and still trying. I am happy to be a size 14P dress. And if I get to be a size 10P that would be nice too. I just want to focus on what is good for me. Not a BMI chart that might be unrealistic for a 56 year old.
I just want to share my success story. The sleeve was not a option I had when I had surgery so not sure if I would have choose that one. But for the other surgeries they were not a option for me.
I have nothing to gain from the band for sharing this story with you. And, just because I had success does not mean you will. So bottom line research research and research before you make your decision and it is your decision not anybody else.
I wish you luck with what ever surgery you choose

Congrats Nancee on your success!!....I remember you last year when you mentioned that you were on a mission to get more weight off and I see you've been busy!! Congrats again and don't be a stranger, we need more positive bandsters to post.
Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*, lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!
Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight down
Thank you, Nance for sharing your story!
Your ability to get back on track after a stall that long is AMAZING! I know, because I was you a couple of years ago. I lost 100 lbs in the first 9 months and as soon as I let sugar back in my life, I not only stopped losing, I started using sugar in a big way to fill the void that a large plate of whatever used to do. Congratulations for having the strength to pick up where you left off and continuing to lose weight!
Sugar is seriously addictive and breaking the cycle is hard, but if you can go 4-7 days without it gets easier.
Unfortunately, I lost my band due to complications from non-compliance. But I'm proud of you and will hold you up as an example to all my banded friends that lost weight in the first year and then stopped. It's not impossible to keep going!
Best,
Lisa O.
Congratulations Nance! What a great job you have done. It takes awesome willpower to give up that emotional sugar eating.
The sleeve wasn't an option for me when I got the band either. I asked and they said one of the surgeons might be getting trained in it. They started 2 months after I was banded.
Congrats on great results on your hard work. I got into trouble with sugar, too. Before my band began giving me trouble I had gotten into ice cream in a major way. Over the winter of 2012 I gained 20 lbs. I continued through the spring but when I found I was going to have to revise I took a good hard look at myself and decided I could not continue. I managed to lose a large portion of the gain before surgery in Aug. and then more after, thankfully. I wish I could say I was working my program perfectly but that isn't the case. I am, however, not out of control when I do have something off program. That certainly is better for my self esteem than the shame that comes when I binge.
You have done a tremendous job and can be truly proud of yourself! Thanks for posting.
