Lap Band After Gastric Bypass - Side Effects???

Hello All.

I am considering having the lap band placed over my gastric bypass surgery, which was done back in 2009. Like many others I never reached my weight lost goal and I even gained back some of the weight I lost.

My concern as a woman looking to someday have children, will having both WL surgeries affect my ability to someday carry health babies.

What other side effects should someone consider having both surgeries.

please help and thanks in advanced.

Generally speaking BOB won't negatively affect your ability to have children. You can infill to get the nutrition you need for pregnancy.

It shouldn't affect your ability to have children but please do be aware, a band after bypass is a temporary measure.  Even the lap band makers state clearly that this device is not meant to last a life time.  50% of bands are removed in the first six years.  :o(

It should be fine but if it will ease your mind you may want to talk to your surgeon or an OB-GYN to make sure you won't have any issues. I know people who have had successful pregnancies after both individual surgeries but don't know anyone with both so can't say for positive.

I would talk to your OB/GYN as stated above!

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

As a BOB, I'd suggest getting pregnant and having the baby 1st and then have the BOB.  The weight loss with the Band and the BOB is soooooo slow. The BOB is a diet. Its not "easy peasy" like the RNY.  You may not do well with the BOB, you may throw up 24/7 and that will not be good for the baby to be.  If you are thinking of having kids in the next few years WAIT!

I"m going into my 7th year of being a bandster.  I've had no issues at all.  The only foods I can't eat are rice and apple skins.. .they don't get stuck... they jjust feel strange going down.  I also don't drink carbonated beverages.  The band changed my life... it was the best thing I ever did.
