Good News!
I had my appt with Dr Pellegrini yesterday and he believes the band and HH repair are the cause of my esophageal damage. I'm scheduled for removal and take down/redo of the HH repair on July 9th. There may be an opening sooner, so they might move up the date. He noted that sutures with pledget were used in the repair and that isn't something that is normally done. Pledgets are pieces of fabric, mesh that reinforce sutures, but cause a great deal of scar tissue to form.
DrP also thinks that after 3/4 months of recovery, I should regain some, if not all esophageal function. At this time, I could revise, but I think I'm going to "go commando" and enjoy healthy eating for the first time in almost 2 years.
That is awesome news! Glad to hear they got an opening after the wait you have already had. Keep at them to approve. I talked to the head person of approvals and she verified all with my surgeon for removal, they approved removal verbally on the spot with written approval shortly after.
Great news, take care!
Just a note, my surgeon, the one that did revision, makes you wait 4-6 months between to heal and make sure your good to go. The surgeon that did the band removal required 2/3 months. He was upset that I hadn't stated that I wanted a revision when the band was removed, guess he would have done a better job cleaning it up.
