emergency lap band removal
The lapband was great at helping my daughter loose weight, but I want everyone to know to get checked regularly. Her lap band slipped, causing the band to cut off oxygen. She had to have emergency lap band removal. She also had developed pneumonia because the food was being pushed up into her lungs. The emergency removal cost $150,000 which the insurance says it wont pay. I feel any parent should know this/and anyone thinking of doing this. We are now going to go for a tight tummy tuck and if that doesn't work, we may look into the sleeve. My daughter is fine now thank goiodness.
So very sorry your family and especially your daughter had to go thru this horror! This is a perfect example of making sure you see your doc on a regular basis and to not have too tight a band. I'm in no way blaming her for anything because the band can also slip when taken care of perfectly. However if she was aspirating food she must have been tight and her surgeon or follow up care should have noticed this and unfilled some. Let this be a warning to all to be very aware of your band and how it is feeling.
Most cosmetic surgeons won't do a tummy tuck, tight or other wise until the weight has been lost and kept off for a considerable amount of time like a year or so. This is so if she regains it won't pull everything loose or cause more serious problems. I would suggest the sleeve first and then after a year get that tummy tuck. Do remember tho that no surgery will do the work for us we have to diet and exercise just like always, a surgery merely makes it easier to do. We can always eat around any surgery so if there are underlying emotional issues it would be good to have her deal with those first as they have derailed many a person on their journey,
Glad she is doing well now and I hope she accomplishes her goal while on this journey.

Why in the world would she get a tummy tuck instead of a revision to a sleeve? How is a sleeve going to stop her from overeating?
You do realize, don't you, that when the regain starts she will ruin her plastics. Right? Stats show that we have a 94% chance of regain without any restriction at all.
Seems like a lot of risky surgeries. Plastics, sleeve, and plastics again. A sleeve would be a solution and less risk.
Some of you are surprised why I would h have my daughter get a tummy tuck before the gastric sleeve. I myself did a tummy tuck ( not for dieting purposes). The doctor did it very tight and I found myself eating about a quarter of what I used to eat. What is more, I didn't crave the sweets as much.A tight tummy tuck is much less invasive. The sleeve is cutting out a huge part of the stomach and is irreversible. The tummy tuck is much safer. I have not only lost weight but get full faster. I am open for my daughter to get the sleeve, but this is the last resort. andi there is less risk of complications. A bypass is out of the question since I heard you have a problem with electrolytes afterward. I really want to warm people on here that a lapband has the potential to be a financial catastrophe(as well as dangerous if an emergency removal is necessary. I don't know what will happen financially at this point with the insurance. $150 price tag is quite a lot (They say she is responsible for $117,000!!! I want the tummy tuck to be used FOR eating less. I don't know why this is not discussed as a weight loss procedure. For me, it has been a blessing at keeping me from overeating! I hope you all see my point in the tummy tuck!

This simply is not true. Plastics carries far more risk than a sleeve. The risks, complications, mortality, it is much higher than a sleeve. A TT isn't reversible either, not sure where you are getting that.
Any surgeon that does a TT so someone won't over eat in the future should have his license revoked.
Totally agree about bypass but electrolytes are the least of the problems.
Seriously, are you for real or are you yanking our chains here?

I am having trouble getting approved for a Face lift because of the possible complications, more trouble than getting a sleeve.

Amazing. I wonder if any of these women had WLS, the article didn't say one way or another.
I still think it is far too great of a risk. Sleeves are much safer surgeries than TTs.
