Port placement

Most surgeons place the port in the abdomen on the lower right side a few inches up from the belly button, my port never stuck out and could not be seen, but I can feel it, it never bother me, some people report slight pain, sometimes when you are losing weight it can shift and sometimes can bother you if you do heavy exercise, but overall it's not a problem for most people.
If you get a band, make sure you don't do any heavy lifting or heavy exercise right out of surgery, let things heal at least for 6-8 weeks.
Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*, lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!
Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight down
Most of the people I've talked to/met have theirs placed in the abdomen. Many have it on the lower left side. This way it is less likely to be mistaken for GB pain. Some have it on the right side. Many have it just above belly button. Mine was just slightly above, left of the belly button. I had the low profile as I carried my weight in the butt/thighs as opposed to the tummy. It always bothered me when I lifted heavy items and did work of most kinds as they attach it to the muscle.
I haven't personally talked to anyone with the port at the shoulder or breastbone.
