I have today received a request through the Business/Professional network site Linkedin telling me that a person had asked my permission to add me to her contact list.

This person is clearly identifiable to me as someone with whom  I have clashed on this board. This is not guesswork, her name is given, her job and where she works.

BUT this person knows NOTHING about me except through this board.   I have NEVER published my surname, my e mail address or even where I live, beyond in the UK. There are 25 people with my name in the UK on Linked in but to find them you would need to know my surname and then where I am located.

I am not accusing OH of breach of confidentiality. But somehow this link has been made. It may be the lady made the request, it may be that Linkedin made the request. But THERE IS NO OTHER POINT OF CONTACT between this lady and myself.

Be warned!  Kate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Kate, I would think most would know better than to EVER use those kinds of websites.  Once one person gets your info it is available to everyone if you know how to do google searches.  If you sign up with Linkedin your info is already available to anyone on the internet.  One should never ever ever ever use their real time info on websites, Linkedin, any of those places.  It's just not safe.

When people start following others around from site to site they pick up bits and pieces of info.  Heck, even from photos posted people can see where in the UK you are.

Don't ever post anything anywhere or sign up for websites using your info.  Use a 3rd party source for posting photos such as photobucket.com.  Once you type your real time info on the internet it is there for everyone to see.  I seriously doubt OH had anything to do with it.

I am not accusing OH. Just warning people it can happen.

Hey Kate!

Unfortunately, this is no longer a world where confidentiality/privacy is honored.  Big brother is ALWAYS watching.  I hate it so much but still, it is.

All Best,

Layla

I know! What has really got to me about this is the person supposedly asking to contact me is someone who would not do that! Not for moral reasons! Simply because she doesn't like me one little bit and we have clashed frequently on here. She wouldn't spend time seeking me out by tracking me and it would require a lot of detective work. I do not use my real name on here, I use a name which is a modification of mine on Linkedin. I have never posted photos which show anything to identify my home town or area, I always go through Photobucket. I am not the only person with the same name on Linkedin.

i do NOT think she tracked me.  Neither do I think OH have done anything. I think this is a linking somehow picked up by Linkedin, probably automatically.

The other poster assumed I was an idiot who posted identifying details.  I haven't, on this or any other site. That is why I posted as a warning. Even with precautions, somehow this happened.

The other poster didn't assume anything.

BTW, how did you info get on Linkedin?

I put it there. But with a different e mail address and a different user name to my OH ones.

You aren't getting it.  When you put real time info about yourself on the internet anyone can do a google search and tie it all together.

NEVER put private info on the internet.  Never put your contact info, your anything.  If it is somewhere, it is everywhere.

No. It's you who is not getting it. OH know my e mail address as I can't be on here otherwise. I used a different e mail address for Linkedin. No site I go on has my correct name/address/contact details. The name I am known by on here is not my name!

Well then your problem is solved.  She doesn't have your real time info so no worries!
