The band the cause of other problems?
Sorry Elena gotta disagree with that one, Ya know I love ya! It may trigger fibro but I don't use aspartame and haven't for years but my fibro is worse now than ever. I also didn't use it way back when I was a teen and it started. There are many triggers for fibro and the aspartame is but one. I know quite a few people who developed it after having the band put in, I think it is from the irritation and inflamation it causes in the body.
Oh, I didn't mean that that was your cause. I just put it out there just in case it may be. Fibro has so many causes and is so painful. I just know that my nutritionist always asks about aspartame as soon as anyone has symptoms. Hope you can figure out what is going on.

That is a theory, not a fact. MS and Fibro have been around a LOT longer than Aspartame.
I realize that and I just wanted to make sure others know, like you said, that there are a multitude of causes. I think I'm just one of those "lucky"? people who tend to have body wise inflamation going on because I have alot of inflamation in my lungs too. I try to stay away from most processed foods and anything else that can increase it but even that doesn't make a lot of difference. So some of us are just "lucky ducks"! I tend to think alot of it is just modern day life and things in our environment that we can't neccesarily control. We're just "special, sensitive" people!
The band places a lot of stress on the body. It is interfering with the most basic and necessary function of eating. When I had a band I always had a low grade feeling of just being unwell. As soon as the sucker came out, I felt like a million bucks!
I believe it has a lot of adverse effects that are just not associated with the band, but are caused by the negative impact it has on the quality of life one experiences with the band.

I must say I agree on some level with all of your comments. I know aspartame is just terrible for us. I am, unfortunately, addicted to Diet Pepsi. I have greatly reduced my consumption of it. I now drink more iced tea sweetened with regular sugar if needed. I cannot help but think that having this foreign object in my body is the root of many problems. I had a barium swallow test today and it was fine. Good to know - but I am going to proceed with removal. I went in to this thinking it would be the least invasive and a great tool to help me. I did not and still do not want to have a bypass. I am a mom and do not feel that I want to jeapardize my health in any way that would affect my functioning. I have a friend who had one and had a terrible time. I have to learn to live my life without hoping for a miracle. I am 300 pds. Still healthy and limber surprisingly! I would love to drop some lbs, but at 50 I am not going to live my life beating myself up anymore. The icing will be getting this thing out so I can feel better again!
When I had my barium swallow test, I too showed OK. Many have also had this experience, just to have a scoop and find out there are other thing wrong, in my case just esophageal inflammation. Some have had erosion and slips not found by the other.
Good luck!
