Having the lap band removed
Hi
I'm scheduled to have a lab band removal surgery next week, i had it put in years ago like 10 years the reason is obvious i am doing the Sleeve gastrectomy and my doctor said he is doing it separately its much more safer like this, i was wondering how long dose it take after surgery until you start eat normal and if you can go home the same day from hospital
Hi just had my band removed and feel like I wa**** by a truck. The anesthesia us the worst part the cut where the port was is very sore feeling exhausted. Headache will not go away which I think is due to lack of food and coffee.
Does anyone have any stories about the recovery time? When does the gas pain go away?when do you start feeling better?
thank you

My band was removed on April 23rd and I am so happy (even though I still have lingering damage)!
Wheeled back at 7:40 AM, rolled out to the car at 11:00 AM, picked up meds and was on the recliner at my parent's house by noon. Oh, my mom drove, though I could have probably done it safer even with the anesthesia haze! HA!
My recover has gone smoothly. Couldn't lift more than 10# until yesterday and I came back to work (desk job) just over a week after surgery. I went to pick up my dogs from boarding on the Monday after surgery, I drove but had the clinic people hoist 'em in the car), made quick trips to the store, etc., soon after surgery.
They superglued my incisions closed and they've been fine. The port incision is still a tiny bit sore, but I didn't really need pain meds after the surgery at all.
I didn't really eat the day of the surgery, just had protein shakes that evening. Did soft foods for a day or so, then back to normal eating.
I was feeling like myself within 2 days of band removal, but it IS major surgery, so I've been trying to take things easy.
When I saw my nurse practitioner for follow up, I told her that I'd gotten stuck after removal, slimed, gagged, etc. She said that if I were to do a barium swallow, it'd look like the band was still in there--a ring of scar tissue is acting like the band even though the band is gone. Greaaaaaat! Another thing I had no idea could happen.
I was having GERD, left shoulder pain, still getting stuck despite an empty band for 4 years, dysphagia and this PITA chronic burping since December. The left shoulder pain is gone, but the dysphagia and burping continue.
Ridiculously long story short, I was fortunate and the removal went seamlessly and I had minimal discomfort after. Just don't try to do too much too fast and let yourself heal. Hopefully all will go well!
