Need advice on Gastric Bypass versus Sleeve

Hi, I haven't been on in two weeks had my gall bladder and umbilicol hernia removed what was a routine operation ended up being more serious. My Dr. told me in all the years he has removed gall bladder's mine was the worst it was so bad it was lodged into my liver and also my hernia they almost had to slice me open to finish operation and I lost so much blood I was close to a transfusion luckily it didn't happen and a one night stay at hospital turned into a few days to make sure my blood levels were stronger. Still recovering and in pain especially my belly button.
I had Lap Band surgery 4 years ago and manage to lose only 10 lbs with it so today my surgeon Dr who performed the surgery above mentioned to me we need to do something he mentioned Gastric ByPass or the Sleeve. Not going to lie Im mortified by all the news I have received for the past two weeks. I'm scared and also scared for my health my liver is enlarged as they say fatty liver which is dangerous.
I know their is a risk in any operation but just afraid of recovery and how I will feel with either operation.
Anyone on here have had lap band removed and had gastric bypass or sleeve and if so what was your experience? after all that happened to me last im afraid.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Yikes, sounds like you've been through the wringer!
I had a lap band for just under 3 years and then revised to the sleeve. My ticker reflects all weight loss with my sleeve. For me, the sleeve has been fantastic and works like I thought the band was supposed to. Eating and "full" feels more normal with the sleeve.
I've had a great experience with my revision. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Thank You so much yes it has been rough, I have a big decision to make and from what I have been reading The Sleeve seems like a better rout for me. Please can I ask you a question how was your recovery and how do you feel and information would be great.
Thank You
Well, my recovery was pretty smooth, but I remember my doctor stating that my surgery went very well. I was off of work for a week and a half. I probably went back to work a little too quickly. I was pretty tired those first days back, but I made it through.
I do remember the first 4 weeks or so were pretty hard mentally though. It was a big change, but it was so worth it.
I love my Sleeve and I've done well with it, but I am going to say what I said to Tonnabug. It's a purely restrictive procedure, so if you have problems with sweets and controling your appetitie the Sleeve is probably not for you. My surgeon said that successful LapBanders do well with the Sleeve, but people who have a harder time with grazing and sugar cravings, they don't do as well.
Good luck with whatever surgery you decide upon!
Lost 271lbs with my LapBand in 22 months! My Band malfunctioned and I gained almost 42lbs and then revised to the Sleeve 9/24/12! I lost another 140 lbs with my Sleeve! Loved the LapBand and Lovin' The Sleeve!
I had a lap band for just under 4 years. I lost than regained a couple times with the band ~60 pounds. I had the band removed 9/4/12. I regained 30 pounds in the 4.5 months it was out. In 2.5 months with the sleeve, I had lost all the regain and another 10 pounds. I'm not hungry hardly ever at 2.5 months out. I am so far ahead of were I was with the band and I even started with a BMI 10 points less than I started with the band.
I would have chosen between the sleeve and a DS for me, the GB (RNY) wasn't anything I wanted.
Sorry you have such a hard time. Hope things get better for you!

HI, quick question what is a DC ?
Honestly Im afraid of either procedure and my husband is not so happy about it but I have never been thin and I honestly need to do something for my health I have never been skinny i want to be healthy thin. My surgeon mentioned first Gastric Bypass but I brought up Sleeve and he also said it was a good procedure. I just want to make sure I make the rite decision since it is a permanent one.
Thanks for all the input
DS? A DS is a duodenal Switch! I is a surgery that gives you a sleeve and Different intestinal re-routing from the RNY. If you hope on their forum, you can find better info. The sleeve was the first part of a surgery that would be done in two stages for the very high BMI. They found in a large number of the patients that they did so well with the first part (sleeve) that they didn't op for the second have of the surgery. Check out the forum! It isn't for everybody. My sister had one in '06. My insurance won't pay for it so if I need the second part I would be self pay.
It wouldn't be my first choice but, it would be my second. (First if I had a higher BMI it would be.)
It would depend on why you did not lose any weight with your LapBand. The VSG works just like the band in many ways. If someone eats around the band and therefore doesn't lose weight, it will be pretty easy to eat around the sleeve. The sleeve is a wonderful tool, but does require a lot of work on your part.
In my opinion, gastric bypass will be a bit easier to lose weight and might keep someone from eating sugar and other highly processed carbs.
Good luck and hope you have a speedy recovery!
