Insurance Issue After Band

Idb1095 is right, They do not have to pay one single penny in an emergency case unless it is a covered service.  My friend had her's removed by coming in via the ER - her pouch was the size of a grapefruit and nothing was passing through.  She had a leak and peritonitis.  She was dying of overwhelming sepsis.  They refused payment.  She spent over 3 weeks in the ICU and two trips to the O.R. - she is left in debt to the hospital and doctors for over $150K.

So you need to research before making a statement like that.

I know there are people that are self pay for removal. Some have had major life devastating financial problems from the removal surgery.  But, I agree with airbender that if you jump thru enough hoops, and go about it a certain way most times you can fight and get not covered items covered.

I had a surgery covered when going thru hoops too.  It wasn't WLS related but, they took care of problems caused by an elective none covered surgery.

Just saying for the damage the band can cause, document, do all testing needed, document more and keep fighting.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.
