This is hard!

I'm trying to eat a bit of dinner. It's not going well, keeps coming back up. This isn't irritation of my band, but damage caused by my band...the muscles that move food through my digestive system are out of sync, working against each other, preventing my meal from moving through.

I deal with this at every meal, sip of water, and when I take my my medications. It hurts. It can be embarrassing. But most of all, it's disappointing. I find myself skipping meals so I don't have to deal with the pain and emotional crap that comes with this condition,

This is my life with the band.

My husband had the sleeve and had very little complication. I just picked my friend up from the hospital and she is not doing very good. She had the lap band removed in which there was scare tissue and a hernia. They also did the sleeve surgery at the same time. She cant keep even water down. Did you have the same issue? They were unable to do a leak test as she cant hold liquid down very well. She is a week in. Did you have any of the same issues?

Your friend needs to get medical attention before becoming dangerously dehydrated.  I can't imagine a qualified medical professional discharging a sleeve patient without a leak test!  Where was the surgery done?

This is very odd.  They wouldn't release me until I ate whatever they gave - jello, broth, ice chips.  That is all I recall.  No way allowed to leave without drinking the barium swallow and leak test.  The nurse gave me a huge sleeve of medicine cups because drinking was a huge task yet a job I had to work to accomplish one medicine cup at a time.  I begged my doc for apple juice.  He said I don't want you to get used to sweet drinks - usually I would say no, but okay right now.  and that went down.  Jello was probably easiest.  Again I had to work for it.

There was a  time after I got back to the room after my barium swallow that I felt a strong, strong urgency to puke and I kept feeling it.  I believe they gave me anti-nasea medication, a basin just in case then it passed.

The big issue with your friend is that she had Band removal hernia repair, and sleeve at the same time.  So I am sure that her stomach is super tender and inflammed.  No matter,  she will become dehydrated if she does not drink.  And what's up with not having a leak test?  She checking her temp as should have been a post-op requirement.  Having a fever can scream out leak.

She needs to get in touch with her surgeon ASAP.  It would be such a waste to create an emergency situation if it can be prevented.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.  My surgeon REFUSES to remove a band and do the revision in the same surgery.  He requires 3 months of healing after the removal.

I hope she feels better soon!

This is why my surgeon refuses to remove a band and do the revision in the same surgery also.  I was upset with him at first but the more I read  and see people doing it all in one the more I respect his opinion.  Getting the sleeve after my 4.5 month wait was easier than get the band and getting it removed.

Tell her to call her surgeons emergency line right away. I got severely dehydrated after my sleeve due to not being able to get anything down. This is dangerous. She should not wait or she will end up back in the hospital. If she doesn't get results from her surgeon have her go to the ER at the hospital where she had her surgery. IV fluids do a ton to make you feel better. I ended up going in several times to get fluid because of being extremely swollen after my band removal and my sleeve.

Aww hon I'm so sorry you are still having to deal with this! (((())))! I think every pre banded person should have to feel what you have been feeling for so long, that would indeed put an end to any bands ever being done again. If we had only been told the truth all those years ago. I just pray they get you fixed up sooner rather than later!

They won't do anything until my manometry on the 9th. It's just a crapshoot as to whether the LES will open or not.
